Media Production Director jobs in Alaska

Media Production Director oversees and plans the pre-production, production, and post-production stages of television or web shows, broadcasts, or videos. Completes pre-production processes, including ideation, concept creation, casting, script writing, budgeting, specifications, and scheduling. Being a Media Production Director defines and organizes the technical and logistical resources required for each production. Assembles the required team of production specialists for each production's camera, sound, lighting, and other functions. Additionally, Media Production Director directs post-production editing operations. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Media Production Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Media Production Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. Production Manager 1 - Learning Media Communications

  • Summary:

    This position is responsible for sourcing, producing, editing, and publishing content that not only benefits the Alaska SeaLife Center (ASLC) but also our partners with the educational and research communities. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of media production, excellent organizational and communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects from conception to delivery.

    Education/Training Requirements:

    Bachelor’s degree in filmmaking practices, multi-media, photojournalism, communications, or similar field and minimum of five years of experience or the equivalent.

    Essential Duties:

    • Responsible for science outreach that is relevant, co-created, and culturally responsive to our seven regional communities and the communities impacted by the oil spill, including Kodiak Island and the Kenai Peninsula.
    • Communicates externally with ASLC stakeholders to build strong partnerships and ensure a successful outcome for all parties.
    • Collaborates with internal teams and external partners to develop and implement effective communication strategies.
    • Ensures all projects adhere to brand guidelines and meet quality standards.
    • Develops new ideas or approaches to engage, educate, and inspire diverse audiences through media communications.
    • Works respectfully and effectively with people from a wide array of cultures and communities.
    • Takes the lead in working with our partners to produce a monthly CORaL (Community Organized Restoration and Learning) Network newsletter.
    • Oversees the planning, development, and execution of various media projects such as videos, blogs, and social media content.
    • Prioritizes projects to be completed in the near future while also having a vision for a long-term collection of works.
    • Works alongside the ASLC Marketing and Communications team on various projects.
    • Plays a critical role on the team that puts on major fundraising events, including photography for the ASLC online art auction.
    • Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, and fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high standards of service.
    • Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Other Skills and Abilities:

    • Prior experience working with Alaska Native communities.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and inspire team members.
    • Ability to multitask and prioritize while working independently and a strong desire to see the completion of projects.
    • Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, and video editing programs.
