    Aloha Kuamoʻo ʻĀina is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization created in 2014 by the Beamer ʻOhana to steward the lands and waters of Kuamoʻo, an ancestral wahi pana in the Kona moku on the Island of Hawaiʻi. We are a Hawaiʻi center for cultural and ecological peace, with a mission to promote aloha ʻāina through the moʻolelo and values of Kuamoʻo to achieve justice and peace for Hawaiʻis people, environment, and the world.

    Position Overview

    Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Media Coordinator will manage external communications including our social media accounts and email contact list. This position will also assist with media-related activities during our public programs, including at community work days and public outreach events.

    Occasional weekend work at the Kuamoʻo Program Site is required. Prospective candidates must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Manages communication channels for the organization including our Facebook and Instagram accounts, YouTube channel, and email list.
    • Creates digital media including social media posts and videos, email newsletters, etc.
    • Attends/ participates in program events to capture photo & video content.
    • Participates in the development and implementation of organizational goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; identifies resource needs; recommends and implements policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with AKA’s mission and goals.
    • Perform other duties and projects as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • HS diploma and 1 years experience in a similar role in media and/ or communications.
    • Strong team player with a collaborative mindset.
    • Self-directed with the ability to work independently under limited supervision.
    • Basic DIY skills, ability to problem solve, be flexible, and show good judgment in changing conditions.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Experience in Hawaiian traditional ecological knowledge, history, ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi, culturally-based education or related fields.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication skills.
    • Experience in creating media for Hawaiian cultural education.
    • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and scheduling skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work authentically with people from different backgrounds.
    • Self-driven individual, able to establish priorities, operate multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Conversational in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language).

    Compensation:

    • $20–$25/ hour, pay is commensurate with experience.
