Mechanical Engineering Manager manages the design and analysis of mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Provides technical direction to team members in designing, developing, and testing mechanical systems or components. Being a Mechanical Engineering Manager utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components. Oversees prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and reviews data and analysis to develop improvements. Additionally, Mechanical Engineering Manager manages engineering projects through their entire lifecycle, including cost and requirement analysis, scheduling, and coordinating activities with stakeholders. Establishes programs to support training, process improvements, and best practices and protocols. Leads initiatives with other departments to identify potential products and projects. Stays abreast of new technologies and processes and implements changes to improve the organization's mechanical engineering capabilities. Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Typically reports to a director. The Mechanical Engineering Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions.   • Job Description Summary: The Engineering Manager position with Fluid Quip Mechanical reports directly to the Director of Fluid Quip Mechanical. The Engineering Manager is responsible for managing all technical work within FQM, including but not limited to engineering, manufacturing, project management, and research and development. The Engineering Manager is also responsible for identifying new equipment applications and strategic business opportunities and helping to create the plan to pursue those opportunities. The Engineering Manager is responsible for all budgets and timelines related to these areas and ensuring that the strategic initiatives are met. The Engineering Manager must be able to communicate and coordinate effectively with various stakeholders including customers, suppliers, and internal team members.


    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Provide engineering expertise and guidance in technical matters across all areas of the business, including product development, engineering, and manufacturing processes.
    • Oversee quality assurance processes to ensure products meet industry standards and exceed customer expectations.
    • Collaborate with the Director of FQM to establish department-level strategic operational goals for Engineering and Project teams.
    • Effectively interact with customers in both sales support and customer service capacities.
    • Support internal technical operations as needed to increase technical capabilities and ensure quality.
    • Develop and implement strategic technology initiatives to drive growth and expansion in existing and new markets.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to conceptualize, develop, and launch innovative aftermarket products that meet customer needs and market demands.
    • Lead research and development efforts to introduce new products to the market.
    • Evaluate equipment performance and develop designs for improving existing equipment
    • Optimize internal production systems and oversee the building and testing of prototypes.
    • Develop vendor relationships to optimize the production of specialty components.
    • Cultivate and maintain strategic partnerships with suppliers, vendors, and other stakeholders to enhance product offerings and market reach.
    • Collaborate with Fluid Quip Technologies in the development of new processes and equipment.
    • Provide leadership and mentorship to technical teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
    • As the company grows, develop and mentor a team of engineers and other technical associates.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline operations and improve efficiency through process optimization and technology integration.
    • Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial plans to support company objectives.
    • Coordinate with the Financial Department to ensure accurate tracking of project financials and timely reporting to upper management.
    • Work closely with the Sales Department to ensure technical resources are available to support sales efforts and estimating needs.
    • Implement and oversee project tracking and management systems for various teams, ensuring adherence to workflows.
    • Provide executive-level reports on project execution metrics and lead high-level project review meetings.
    • Uphold high-quality standards and implement robust QA/QC processes for all engineering and project management workflows.
    • Anticipate potential system roadblocks and implement corrective measures to mitigate issues.
    • Maintain updated engineering and procurement schedules with current commitment dates.
    • Review equipment drawings, general arrangements, and 3D models, conducting thorough Quality Control checks.
    • Manage the distribution of design document packages to clients, subcontractors, and other engineering firms.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree in Mechanical or other Engineering discipline
    • At least 7-10 years’ experience leading project/engineering disciplines
    • Experience leading multi departmental teams and executing on customer focused industrial projects.
    • Strong technical background in engineering and industrial project execution
    • Experience utilizing CAD software to review and design new equipment
    • Ability to understand and manage complex technical projects and engineers from a senior execution level
    • Strong financial skills encompassing, planning, budgeting and accounting experience

    Work Environment/Physical Demands:

    • Office and mechanical shop work in the FQM Columbus office
    • Travel (15%) to FQM customers and projects

    Fluid Quip Mechanical
    Fluid Quip Mechanical (FQM) fully supports ethanol plants mechanical needs ranging from field service to assisting in preventative maintenance planning. FQM’s operations include field service, shop rebuild, inventory/logistics, and plant reliability teams. FQM teams support new Fluid-Quip equipment commissioning, field equipment upgrades, in-house and field equipment rebuilds and parts supply across the Midwest. The FQM base of operations is in Columbus, WI with the inventory warehouse and shop for repairs and rebuilds. FQM also has multiple fleet vehicles and teams to service customer equipment in the field.
