    Summary:  

    The Engineer-Mechanical Integrity will be involved in a diverse work environment, in various aspects of the company’s business related to pipeline integrity, defect evaluations, Liquid and gas transmission regulations, Process Safety Management and operations. This position requires periodic travel to field locations, training, and company meetings.  This position will primarily support the Mechanical (MI) Integrity program working closely with the MI Project managers (API Inspectors) and Pipeline Integrity Engineers. This position will also support the Mechanical Integrity API 579 Fitness for Service evaluations for pressure vessels and piping.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Support the Company’s Integrity Management Plan (IMP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in risk assessment, data integration, anomaly evaluation, remediation programs, integrity program evaluation, and identification of preventive and mitigative measures.
    • Utilize engineering tools such as GIS database interactive maps, and pipeline integrity data sheets to identify potential risks and track program progress on specific lines.
    • Initiate and lead interaction with appropriate subject matter experts and other stakeholders, such as third-party resources and vendors, perform materials testing, and communicate requirements for in-field evaluation.
    • Review all integrity data to determine the facility pipe susceptible threats and work with the Facility MI Project Manager to scope the effective NDE such as Guided Wave ultrasonics, Phased Array ultrasonics and automated ultrasonics.
    • Perform RSTRENG calculations as necessary to evaluate field anomaly reports.
    • Provides technical support to the Integrity Repair group, Specialists, Project Managers, and Operations with pipeline assessments, evaluation, and repair methods.
    • Assists in the management of Company pipeline SOPs covering defect evaluations, pipe repairs, pressure reductions, coupling reinforcements, outside force evaluation, and surveillance.
    • Assists in inspections by PHMSA and other regulatory bodies by acting as an SME on pipeline inspections, data, records, and program execution.
    • Assists in developing improvements to the company’s SOP, including, best practices, and processes.
    • Perform API 579 Fitness for Service evaluations for pressure vessels and develop repair scopes as necessary.
    • Support operations as an SME for the bolt torque/ tension procedure using company SOPs and ASME PCC-1.
    • Perform Thermal welding models as requested by operations when the welding SME is unavailable. 

    Requirements:  Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements for this position are listed below:  

    • Education and/or Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • B.S. or higher in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum engineering.
    • Minimum 3-6 years’ industry experience
    • Experienced with industry standard specifications and regulations, such as, 49 CFR Part 192 and 195, API 5L, API 1104, MSS SP 75.
    • Knowledge of relevant API, ASME, ANSI and other applicable codes and specifications.
    • Experience in pipeline operations, pipeline design, pipeline repair, and pipeline integrity issues such as corrosion control, pipeline assessment and fitness for service evaluation, risk management, DOT Code requirements, and compliance.
    • Experience with Pressure vessel design, construction, repair and Fitness for Service evaluations.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Proficient with Microsoft office applications such as Word, Excel and Power Point.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
    • Formal training in API 579 Fitness for Service.
    • Experience in using INSPECT/Codeware.
    • Welding experience
    • Thermal Analysis modeling (in-service hot taps) and training

    Working Conditions:

    • Assess pipelines through entering excavations and ladders.
    • Sitting for extended periods
    • Standing for extended periods
    • Driving extended periods and distances further than 90 miles.
    • Travel on short notice to failure locations up to approximately 25% throughout Energy Transfer’s assets.
    • The job may also involve participating on occasional unscheduled callouts and extended workdays and/or workweek.
    • This position requires travel for temporary assignments, meetings, and training.
    • Natural gas, liquids and processing is an “around the clock” operation and may be subject to hazardous conditions including escaping gas, adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures, heights, high pressure gas lines, confined and cramped conditions. Position may be subject to applicable U.S. Department of Transportation Drug & Alcohol regulations.
