Mechanical Designer jobs in Rhode Island

Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Responsibilities

    • Collaborate with the design team to create innovative fire detection equipment, alarm systems, and fire extinguishing devices and systems.
    • Assist in the procurement, modification, installation, maintenance, and operation of fire protection systems.
    • Contribute to the creation of detailed sketches, illustrations, and blueprints using drafting instruments or computer-aided design (CAD) equipment.
    • Support the refinement and modification of designs, utilizing working models, to align with customer specifications, production constraints, or changes.
    • Participate in coordinating the fabrication of models and samples, and contribute to drafting working drawings and specification sheets from initial sketches.
    • Contribute to the evaluation of the feasibility of design ideas, considering factors such as safety, functionality, budget, and production costs/methods.
    • Collaborate with the team in presenting designs and reports to customers or design committees for approval, actively engaging in discussions regarding necessary modifications.
    • Conduct research on production specifications, costs, production materials, and manufacturing methods. Provide detailed cost estimates and itemized production requirements.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related field.
    • Proficiency in (CAD/ AutoCAD) software is a must.
    • Strong technical background in mechanical, plumbing, and/or fire protection systems
    • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects at once in a fast paced environment
    • Previous installation experience a plus
    • Self-motivated and flexible team player
    • NICET certification a plus
    • Knowledge of NFPA standards
    • SPRINKCAD experience (not required, but desired)
    • Highly organized, detail oriented, and efficient
    • Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Computer proficiency
