Mechanical Designer jobs in Gaithersburg, MD
Mechanical Designer designs and creates layouts and documentation for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other mechanical building systems that meet project and technical specifications. Uses computer-aided design (CAD) and other specialized software tools to generate detailed layout plans, schematics, and drawings for mechanical systems. Being a Mechanical Designer maintains accurate and complete change and version control on all design files, documents, and drawings. Incorporates best practices to address design space constraints and ensure compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and building codes. Additionally, Mechanical Designer collaborates with engineers and other project members. May conduct or participate in site visits to inspect installations or troubleshoot problems. May require an associate degree in mechanical design, drafting or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Designer works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. A small MEP consulting firm in Northern Virginia, in search of a mid to senior level mechanical engineer/designer with experience in the design of commercial projects. We are seeking candidates with 5 - 10 years of mechanical design experience for commercial projects; tenant fit-outs, base buildings, restaurants, etc.
Duties would include the following:
- Prepare design documents, provide engineering calculations, perform feasibility studies, and produce equipment selection and specifications.
- Conduct site visits and document existing conditions
- Communicate with clients and attend meeting as required.
- Provide RFI responses in a timely fashion
- Be able to take projects from concept through construction.
Requirements:
Strong verbal/written communication skills
Proficiency in AutoCAD and MS office
Willingness to work overtime as business needs dictateMust be a team player and be able to work closely with Electrical and Plumbing team members.
Must be able to work with minimal supervisionEducation, Training:
5 - 10 years in desired fieldRegistered Professional Engineer (PE) a plus but not required.
LEED AP BD C - a plusThis is a full time employment position with excellent benefits to include paid leave, health insurance, and performance based bonuses. Salary commensurate with experience.
