Mechanic Technician maintains and services a building or plant's mechanical equipment, control systems, power distribution systems, and HVAC systems. Performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs to systems and equipment. Being a Mechanic Technician conducts periodic safety and maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment for replacement and identify wear and damage. Uses technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors. Additionally, Mechanic Technician orders parts needed for replacement and coordinates with service providers to complete maintenance tasks. Uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system to track and document activities. Follows established safety procedures and regulations for hazardous materials handling. May have completed a trade apprenticeship or technical training. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Metro Transit is currently seeking Bus and Rail Mechanic Technicians who are dedicated, career-oriented individuals with strong mechanical skills and who want to serve the public. Mechanic Technicians perform, diagnosis, repair, and provide preventive maintenance on Metro Transit's buses, train, cars, trucks, and equipment. They also remanufacture and rebuild components to the manufactures' specifications; fabricates/machines/designs parts as needed and provides welding and painting services. This position is eligible for benefits after 30 days of starting.

Education Experience:
High school diploma/GED and two (2) years or more of full-time professional vehicle troubleshooting and repair experience as a mechanic within the last 10 years.

Associate Degree or two (2) year college or vocational school program in Diesel Mechanics or related field.

Pay and Shifts:
All new hires start at $30.54 per hour and all shifts and job information will be governed by ATU seniority and the union agreement. Overnight shift is eligible for differential pay. This position will require the flexibility to workdays, nights, evenings and weekends.

What your work environment would be. Work is performed in a maintenance garage setting. This position may require working in wet or hot, humid non-weather conditions and in high precarious places up to two thirds of the time. This position may also require, up to one third of the time, working in outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold, risk of electrical shock and work with explosives.

Commuter Rail Mechanic Technician only: Additionally, you must pass a DOT background check for the designation /certification of a train service engineer (QMP). A QMP is a federal designation for someone who is trained and qualified to maintain locomotives and passenger cars.
