Mechanic Technician jobs in Louisiana

Mechanic Technician maintains and services a building or plant's mechanical equipment, control systems, power distribution systems, and HVAC systems. Performs preventative maintenance and routine repairs to systems and equipment. Being a Mechanic Technician conducts periodic safety and maintenance inspections to evaluate equipment for replacement and identify wear and damage. Uses technical diagrams, blueprints, and schematics to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, and repair equipment, engines, and compressors. Additionally, Mechanic Technician orders parts needed for replacement and coordinates with service providers to complete maintenance tasks. Uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) or work order system to track and document activities. Follows established safety procedures and regulations for hazardous materials handling. May have completed a trade apprenticeship or technical training. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Mechanic Technician works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.   • Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

    • Has expert / leader level knowledge of one or more of the following skills and has a working knowledge of most of the remainder, i.e., electric and gas welding, black smithing, rigging, pipe fitting, hydrolytic, diesel, and other internal combustion engines, machine tool setup and operation, sheet metal layout and working, heavy and light machinery repair, construction, maintenance and installation. 
    • Able to troubleshoot complex equipment and apply best practices to successfully repair and maintain top of the line mining equipment.
    • May do some painting and carpentry work.
    • Occasionally will assist in training those with lesser skills and may maintain fire fighting equipment.
    • Work under a minimum of supervision.
    • Frequently direct the works of others of equal or lower classification.
    • Operate all plant tools and is able to read and work from most blueprints and interpret construction knowledge of shop mathematics.
    • May do some routine tasks such as greasing, oiling, cleaning, and inspection of equipment, buildings, and attachments.
    • Able to locate and remedy trouble in most of the plant’s various machines, equipment, and installations in the field of the skill or skills in which he is proficient.
    • Keeps working area clean, neat, and orderly, and tools clean and in good repair.
    • Performs other duties of a related nature, as directed.

     

    • Normally requires over (3) years training and experience to qualify.
    • One-year general shop experience and one year in a specialty.
    • Must be able to obtain an appropriate blasting license at the time of hire / qualification and maintain during employment 

     

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • High degree of attention required to prevent injury to self and coworkers; promote safe workplace
    • Must be able to work safely in varying temperatures in mine workplace, and outside year round
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds regularly
    • Must be able to wear steel-toed shoes and safety glasses
    • Must be able to work overtime as necessary
    • Must be able to work at heights as required
    • Must be 21 or older and obtain a Blasters License with ATF clearance. 

     

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Clean shop, work areas. Cleaning requires employee to bend, stoop, and lift items from the floor, tables, benches, etc. – lifting would be limited to a maximum of 65 lbs.

     

    1. Required to work on ground level, platforms, ladders, scaffolding, hi lifts, etc.; requires the employee to climb ladders, climb scaffolding, bend stoop, twist and lift – lifting is limited to a maximum of 65 pounds. Assist in erecting ladders, scaffolding, etc.

     

    1. Able to cut and weld on various types of metal – weld vertical and overhead, and operate and use diesel welder. Also, must be able to determine types and size of welding rods used on a particular metal.

     

    1. Operate mobile equipment, such as a forktruck, crane, and winch truck. This requires the employee to be able to use and understand hand signals, and have hand and eye coordination to manipulate the respective controls in order to locate and place objects in the proper place.

     

    1. Determine job functions, procedure, and parts needed to perform tasks with little or no supervision.

     

    1. Work well within a group, or alone, and provide leadership when working with other people.

     

    1. Order parts as necessary for repairs, or provide proper and correct information for parts to be ordered, and have knowledge of where parts are stored and the procedure to find, and replace them in stock.

     

    1. May be required to make decisions on breakdown repairs. Must be able to determine the extent of repairs or replacement, and also notify the proper supervisors of the task being performed – this requires good verbal communication skills.

     

    1. May assist other journeymen, electricians, carpenters, painters, etc. in doing jobs related to their field of work.

     

    1. May be required to work additional hours as required, or even be required to come in early to perform work before the regular shift starts.

     

    1. May be required to work all shifts at times – may work alone or with an electrician or other mechanics.

     

    1. Repair and troubleshoot diesel engines, belt conveyors, mobile equipment, hydraulic equipment, pumps, and other equipment – complete the necessary reports on equipment.

     

    1. Essential job functions are performed in all types of weather conditions, some work may be performed inside plant buildings but many are performed outside; this involves the employee to work in hot, humid, wet, dusty, cool, and cold environments – most work is performed underground.
