Summary
The Meat Department Manager is responsible for all aspects of Meat and Homemade Sausage department operations and profitability and actively supports Mackenthun's Exceptional Experience by providing exemplary customer service and by effectively training, motivating, and leading their team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide supervision, consistent training, and leadership for Meat and Homemade Sausage employees to ensure excellent customer service and team productivity. Monitor employee performance, provide coaching, feedback, and praise. Conduct probationary and annual employee performance reviews.
Financial Responsibilities: Responsible for meeting the financial budget as set forth by the store director by managing inventory, pricing, billing, labor, and shrink.
Other Responsibilities
Perform duties in a manner that safeguards company property, resources, and image.
Assist with Meat production when needed.
Oversee department sanitation and cleanliness of equipment and fixtures.
Other duties as requested.
Department Development
Stay current with industry trends and evolving customer tastes and needs by introducing and implementing new foods, recipes, and ideas. Attend company planning and strategy meetings, plan and participate in special sales and events. Develop employees’ skills, knowledge, and abilities to reach department and store objectives.
Requirements
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Experience: Two (2) years meat cutting/processing required. Previous meat/grocery store, restaurant, or food service experience preferred. Previous culinary experience is preferred, including how to use a knife. HACCP (Health and Food Safety) Certified and MN Food Manager Certification required, may be obtained after hire. Certifications must remain current. Must have proven organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize, efficiently perform duties, and delegate tasks. Windows operating system computer skills including Word, Excel and Internet experience required. Must have strong math skills. Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
Communication Requirements
Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language. Must understand and display proficiency in resolving conflict through leadership and discussion. Understand how and when to motivate using praise and proper correction. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate a consistent message through proper use of strong business and moral ethics that support Mackenthun’s vision and commitment to our employees and customers.
Physical Demands
Constant standing/walking/hearing and seeing for long periods of time. Frequent bending at waist, reaching with hands and arms, above shoulders/below waist, crouching/stooping/kneeling, climbing stairs, climbing ladders, lifting and carrying up to 80 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 1500 lbs with use of pallet jack. This position requires close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception and color vision.
Equipment Used
Includes but not limited to computer, inventory/ordering gun, baler, box cutter, knives, band saw, compactor, electric and non-electric pallet jack, grinder, hand saw, ladder, lift truck, meat mixer, sinks, slicer, tenderizer, walk-in freezer and cooler, wrapper/sealer.
Work Environment
Must be able to work with and around machine noise, hot and cold temperatures, on terrazzo flooring in a smoke-free facility in a multifaceted and fast paced environment. Exposure to cleaning chemicals.
