Maternity Services Director is responsible for the maternity unit and all sub-unit operations and staffing. Coordinates activities related to labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and the baby nursery. Being a Maternity Services Director manages the departments operating budget and measures performance using standards established by the hospital. May direct community outreach programs to deliver women's health information and education. Additionally, Maternity Services Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. Requires registered nurse (RN). The Maternity Services Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Position Summary

    The Associate Director of Public Relations and Communications will manage the implementation and execution of the day-to-day agency communications and public relations (PR) operations ensuring that the communications and public relations strategic goals developed by the Director of Marketing, Communications, Public Relations are being achieved. This role requires developing the knowledge and understanding of various departmental goals, objectives, and challenges. This includes but is not limited to public relations initiatives, policy and advocacy campaigns and agendas, recruitment and retention, agency event planning and management, development initiatives, and executive team strategic projects. Primary focus is on initiatives involving external stakeholders.

    The ideal candidate will possess strong and effective communication skills, while working collaboratively and maintaining an approachable and friendly attitude. With a thorough understanding of communications and public relations, this person will manage multiple projects and campaigns simultaneously, and possess the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and situations in a strategic and thoughtful manner.

    Essential Tasks

    Leadership and Management

    • Implements and executes the agency’s communications and public relations strategies in collaboration with the Director, and other leadership staff and additional stakeholders as needed.
    • Manages incoming press inquiries and requests.
    • Leads press outreach and relationships.
    • Creates and oversees internal media training, creates agency talking points, and leads agency storytelling work.
    • Serves as lead support staff for agency event planning and management, including but not limited to fundraising events, policy roundtables, press conferences, site visits, and virtual events.
    • Leads and executes communications and public relations strategy for policy and advocacy.
    • Works collaboratively with Director of Communications, Marketing, PR and policy and advocacy staff on development of agency strategy for policy and advocacy communications and public relations.

    Public Relations

    In consultation with Director, implement and execute the agency public relations strategy as key support role for MCC’s PR efforts.
    • Cultivate relationships with local, regional, and national media – both traditional and new media including bloggers, influencers, and other key media partners.
    • Field media inquiries and present proposed responses to the Director.
    • Write and distribute press releases, media toolkits, biographies.
    • Pitch and position national and local stories to promote the agency’s strategic goals.
    • Monitor relevant media and placements; administrate organization of press clips and press contact lists.
    • Support the Director in preparing and disseminating media training and managing crisis communications.
    • Support the Director in creation and maintenance of agency talking points, one-pagers, scripts, and quotes.
    • Implement and execute internal agency storytelling work.

    Event Planning and Management

    Provide agency-wide event planning and management support with particular focus on events in the External Affairs department, including but not limited to fundraising events, policy roundtables, press conferences, site visits, and virtual events.
    • Create event briefings and facilitate interdepartmental organization and collaboration.
    • Update and manage internal agency events and speaking engagements tracking.
    • Support budget management and keep track of expenditures.
    • Conduct partner outreach and collaboration; oversee contractors and vendors.
    • Support event programming creation and drafting scripts or talking points for speakers as needed.
    • Conduct media outreach and general event promotion.
    • Create and manage day-of photography and social media plans, as needed.

    Other Tasks
    • Lead and execute the communications and public relations strategy for policy and advocacy.
    • Develop a deep understanding of policy and advocacy issues and effectively translate communications externally to support agency goals and the policy and advocacy agenda.
    • Work with Coordinator to create social media content and campaigns focused on policy and advocacy work.
    • Keep track of and assist in managing department calendars, including project calendars, events calendars, external affairs calendars, and campaign schedules.
    • Manage administrative responsibilities that are involved in keeping the department running smoothly and in coordination with the rest of the organization including credit card reconciliation, invoice processing, and vendor relationship management.
    • Actively participate in meetings across the organization to develop a well-rounded understanding of the MCC community, other department needs, challenges and expectations.
    • Serve as support staff for MCC’s Marketing, Communications, and Public Relations Committee.
    • Commit to understanding and prioritizing MCC’s diversity, equity, inclusion and justice practices.
    • Research and maintain knowledge of industry trends.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Experience, Education, and Licensure
    • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Public Policy, or other related field. Relevant experience and transferable skills will be considered in lieu of formal education.
    • Must have 3-5 years of experience. Public relations, public policy, and event management experience preferred and non-profit experience a plus.
    • Excellent communications skills, able communicate effectively and thoughtfully is required.
    • Superior organizational skills with strong attention to detail is required.
    • Required to have high proficiency with computer and PR/marketing applications including Cision/Meltwater, Google Analytics, Wordpress, Constant Contact, Facebook Business Manager etc.
    • Ability to manage multiple budgets and proven ability to effectively utilize limited budgets.
    • Proven ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects and prioritize tasks.
    • Candidates should be based in the greater Philadelphia region with the ability to work in various Southeastern Philadelphia office locations and remotely.
