Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • JOB PURPOSE

     

    The Materials Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of materials flow and to maintain control and accuracy over all goods inventories, including all transactions, procurement, planning, scheduling, cost, warehouse, receiving, and shipping to ensure that customer orders are fulfilled on time. This position is also responsible to develop and manage all supplier relationships.

     

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    • Develop, implement and manage cross-functional, fully integrated planning process that incorporates capacity planning, scheduling, inventory, and associated cost elements.
    • Achieve optimal inventory levels to meet or exceed budgetary plan.
    • Performs analysis of customer demand, sales forecasts, and historical material usage to develop and execute build to order and build to forecast plans.
    • Purchasing & Inventory Management Establish and implement methods and best practices related to the systems and process that support inventory forecasting, purchasing, and material control.
    • Managing the purchase of all materials and services for production.
    • Ensure organized and planned inventory management activities.
    • Ensure proper inspection of raw materials before they are processed into stock.
    • Ensure materials are available for production as required.
    • Ensure supplier forecasts are developed to achieve predictable stock levels and turns.
    • Ensure ATF Compliance of serialized items.
    • Prepares customer delivery reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing information and trends and uses information to proactively communicate potential late deliveries.
    • Establishes and supervises production scheduling activities by monitoring material inventories, tracking progress of production and reviewing factors that affect schedules.
    • Develop and execute a sourcing strategy to meet the company’s business growth and sourcing requirements.
    • All other duties, as assigned.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

     

    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
    • 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Preferred 3-5 years of management experience. 
    • Possess a working knowledge of Production Planning & Scheduling, Procurement, Inventory Control and E-Commerce Systems, NetSuite or other ERP Systems
    • Ability to build a high-performance team.
    • Strong problem-solving skills
    • Working understanding of leadership principles and management best practices
    • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
    • Possess the ability to implement and manage change.
    • Be personally energetic, positive, and able to think laterally to follow through with reasoned decision making.
    • Must be able to meet with potential customers and suppliers when required.
    • Must be willing to learn, improve, adapt, and be flexible.
    • Must have strong computer skills to include Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook
    • Maintain confidentiality as required.

     

    WORKING CONDITIONS

     

    Occasionally additional hours may be optional or mandatory to complete essential tasks. All work is performed within an office environment with occasional warehouse exposure.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

     

    Materials Manager will have to spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers. Worker may be required to lift objects weighing from less than 20lbs to 40lbs on rare occasion. May also be required to walk and stand for long periods.
