Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Summary: Plan, coordinate, direct, and accurately report activities for inventory management and logistic operations. This role will be a dependable, approachable role model, responsible for all inventory, shipping, and receiving activities as well as team members on the shift. Will promote a safe culture while transacting raw materials, finished goods, and all consumables between vendors, customers, other production facilities, ensuring inventory / order accuracy, and fulfilling the following duties personally or through subordinates.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Oversees, coordinates and report inventory and logistics activities to ensure on time delivery and order accuracy.
    • Responsible for inventory controls and counts. Ensuring proper storing and staging of products by SKU, size, color, etc. in the warehouse and yard.
    • Coordinate with Production Team to provide the Sales and Customer Service Team with information regarding shipment dates and shipping delays.
    • Work closely with our 3rd Party Logistics partners to maintain visibility and accountability of all material, both finished goods, inbound / outbound scrap for reprocessing.
    • Interfaces with others in the organization to ensure shipping goals and customer deadlines are met.
    • Inspects machines and equipment in the warehouse to ensure safety, operational performance, and optimum utilization.
    • Develops and/or revises operational practices and observes workers to ensure compliance with standards and customer shipment timelines.
    • Inspires a culture of safety, 5S, and continuous improvement.
    • Must be a Team Player and Team Builder.

    Training Requirements:

    General Safety and Housekeeping Standards.

    Quality Training to include defect identification, and escalation.

    PE Pipe loading and unloading procedures for reeled, palletized, and straight length products.

    Experience leading warehouse level employees and conducting annual performance appraisals.

    Minimum forklift (PIV) certification and possibly, a certification in heavy loading equipment.

    Experience using year round cycle counting methods to ensure accurate inventory count and FGI locations throughout the year and account for all inventory variances.

    Mold block setup and gap adjustments on corrugated lines.

    Must have reliable transportation.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

    · Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Communication skills are necessary to direct the activities of workers, communicate company policies, train employees, and prepare written reports for management.

    · Supervisory skills include training, evaluating, coaching, disciplining, and performance management of employees.

    • Working knowledge of logistical and manufacturing safety.
    • Prefer experience with continuous improvement (Lean, OSHA 10 General Industry, Six Sigma, etc.)

    · Interpersonal skills and motivating others - creates a climate in which people want to do their best; can motivate many kinds of direct reports; pushes tasks and decisions down; empowers others; invites input from each person and shares ownership and visibility; makes everyone feel his/her work is important; is someone people like working for and with.

    · Business acumen at a basic level but will be expected to be data driven to solve problems and resolve conflicts.

    · Statistical analysis and presentation skills are a plus.

    · Able to design, setup, operate within, and provide QC verification of computerized inventory control systems using RF scanners and bar codes preferred.

    Proper Protective Equipment (PPE):

    • Safety footwear such as hard composite or steel toed boots or shoes are always required in production and warehouse areas.
    • Safety glasses are provided but always required in production and warehouse areas.
    • Other PPE is required for specific tasks throughout the facility.

    Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    An Inventory and Shipping & Receiving Manager may be required to stand for long periods of time, bend at the waist, and occasionally lift 40-50 lbs..

    The employee is frequently required to be at a computer mining data and generating reports to conduct inventory control activities. Proper office ergonomics should be followed.

    Work Environment: The performance of this position requires normal exposure to typical manufacturing areas.

    The temperature of the work area may be affected by outside temperatures and machines. Industrial lighting provided.

    While performing this job the employee frequently works near moving mechanical equipment.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

    Long pants and closed steel toe shoes are required. Hearing protection and safety goggles must be worn at all times within the manufacturing areas.
