Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Summary:

    The position is responsible for the management of inventory, purchasing, and scheduling. This position support production’s success while ensuring our goods are ready and on time for distribution in a profitable manner.

    Essential Functions

    • Establish, monitor, and achieve departmental performance measurements and goals. Make suggestions for improvements such as cost reduction, process efficiency, quality, and productivity.
    • Maintain data and report metrics related to on-time supplier and customer delivery performance; suggest corrective actions.
    • Manage and train purchasing and inventory team members. Ensure cross-training is in place for business process continuity during employee absences.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Planning & Scheduling

    • Collaborate with production management to identify and maintain inventory resources needed to provide an effective and efficient flow of materials to meet the production schedule.
    • Interact with shop floor management daily to resolve issues and provide additional information related to supply of materials as needed.
    • Manage and facilitate scheduling changes as necessary while also communicating schedule status with customers via web-based portal.
    • Lead production scheduling meetings to ensure schedule continuity, production planning review, and provide inventory and purchasing input.
    • Monitor shop floor production status daily and update the estimated delivery schedule in Syspro for all orders.
    • Review newly released shop packs, complete confirmation process for work orders, and assign dates in Syspro.

    Inventory

    • Manage inventory control, receiving, and materials storage. Ensure the inbound quality inspection process is accurate and complete.
    • Maintain required quantity of supplies and materials to optimize production and achieve planned order completion dates.
    • Monitor feedlines and TW kit levels for iron hearts. Create work orders as needed for these items.
    • Monitor allocation levels for Ironheart critical parts (spools, headers, control panels and pumps). Communicate with suppliers and create requisitions and work orders as needed for these items.
    • Prepare and monitor shortage reports and coordinate with purchasing to get material in time.
    • Perform final review of work orders prior to shipment and make any material issuance corrections as needed.
    • Ensure controls are in place to safeguard inventory.
    • Maintain and ensure accuracy of the perpetual inventory.
    • Manage all cycle counts including stock parts (daily), raw materials (monthly), and bench stock (quarterly). Review variances and maintain status reports ensuring variances remain below APICS standard of /-2%.
    • Manage successful execution of the year-end full physical inventory process. Work with accounting and auditors to ensure proper completion of all tasks and that variances remain APICS standard of /-2%.
    • Identify opportunities to reduce materials and consumable costs and charges.
    • Analyze current inventory receiving, movement, storage, and procedures; suggest improvements to increase efficiency and profitability for the company.

    Purchasing

    • Run and analyze Materials Resource Planning (MRP). Provide input to purchasing team for creation of purchase orders related to stocked items as well as those specifically for jobs.
    • Manage purchasing and sourcing with focus on diversifying vendor base and leveraging supplier relationships to improve cost mechanisms such as net terms, rebates, and agreements.
    • Monitor the performance of suppliers, assessing their ability to meet cost, quality, and delivery requirements.
    • Identify new or alternative suppliers of materials, equipment and/or supplies as necessary. Determine product requirements, pricing, and terms of sale.
    • Develop policies to increase efficiency of the purchasing process while ensuring quality and safety; execute action that ensure improvements to processes.
    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
    • 2 years’ ERP and MRP experience, Syspro preferred.
    • Advanced Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma certification
    • Excellent knowledge of production planning and quality control principles
    • Ability to administer multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Results-oriented with high level of integrity and dependability.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with a proven ability to create and maintain positive working relationships with vendors, suppliers, shippers, and customers.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
    • Strong computer aptitude, including Microsoft Office Suite.
