Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.      The Materials Manager's job is to oversee inventory and ensure materials are properly distributed to shop personnel. The Materials Manager must be experienced and competent with in-depth knowledge of inventory management systems and procedures. The Materials Manager should be an excellent communicator, with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. This position will oversee the receiving, storage, control, and distribution of materials and products according to company needs and customer requirements.

    Requirements

      Responsibilities:

    • Work with procurement and shop manager to identify supply needs.
    • Recommend solutions to existing processes to reduce waste and increase efficacy.
    • Record or oversee recording of all materials movement.
    • Monitor inventory levels and access to the material.
    • Manage, train, and support warehouse employees.
    • Directs inventory control, shipping and receiving, and materials storage.
    • Maintains inventory levels to ensure deliveries occur within customer timelines.
    • Maintains and ensures accuracy of the inventory system.
    • Coordinate with purchasing department to schedule delivery of materials, supplies, and equipment.
    • Records and executes write-offs on damaged or obsolete inventory to reflect accurate value of inventory.
    • Oversee creation/maintenance of item codes in ERP.
    • Review production orders against engineering prints.
    • Review and update production orders for material changes.
    • Generate and distribute procurement requests and picklists.
    • Oversee and coordinate physical inventory counts.
    • Research and reconcile variance between physical inventory and system inventory.
    • Support fabrication departments with administrative duties as it relates to materials movement.
    • Ensuring basic maintenance standards and compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Preform other duties as assigned.

     Requirements:

    • A minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.
    • Proven managerial experience is a bonus.
    • Solid understanding of inventory management systems.
    • Outstanding communication and leadership skills.
    • Analytical mind with excellent problem-solving abilities.
    • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work well with all levels of management and staff.
    • Proficient with inventory reporting systems.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
