Materials Manager manages the raw material planning processes to ensure an organization operates efficiently. Ensures raw materials are available to meet designated production schedules. Being a Materials Manager utilizes MRP system to manage material planning from purchasing, processing, warehousing, and production. Develops forecasts for raw material needs by considering purchases, production rates, and maintenance schedules. Additionally, Materials Manager coordinates with stakeholders in purchasing and inventory control when adjustments are needed and troubleshoots complex issues as necessary. Maintains supplier relationships and may negotiate lead times. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Carlson Testing, Inc. (CTI), is currently looking to fill a position for a Lab Manager in our Tigard, Oregon office. We are seeking individuals with preferably 5 or more years of related experience; however, we are willing to train the right candidate. If you are technical, enjoy working with your hands and brain, have a strong work ethic and cooperate with clients and coworkers, this is the position for you.

    As a Lab Manager, you would be responsible for following standardized testing procedures to test construction materials such as concrete, soils, aggregates and asphalt.

    You’re Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for coordinating and managing the activities of the construction materials laboratory.
    • Prepare and review field and lab material testing reports.
    • Check for compliance of test results with respect to federal, state or local municipality project specifications, standards, technical documents and drawings.
    • Trouble shoot and investigate field and lab materials testing problems and consult with suppliers, technicians, contractors, engineers and owners to provide resolutions.
    • ·Responsible for the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Work closely with the quality assurance manager to maintain international and state recognized laboratory accreditations (WABO, ODOT, IAS).
    • Responsible for training and supervising lab and field staff along with tracking staffing certifications.
    • Maintain a positive and supportive work environment while encouraging teamwork and collaboration amongst employees.

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university
    • Equivalent years of experience in the construction materials testing & inspection industry

    Requirements:

    • Extensive knowledge of quality control and quality assurance testing of asphalt, soils, aggregate and concrete.
    • Strong comprehension of civil engineering principles and transportation projects.
    • Valid driver’s license and personal transportation required.
    • Provide excellent communication with project managers, engineers and contractors.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must possess basic math skills.
    • Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs regularly

    Certifications:
    Some combination of the following certifications or there equivalent would be helpful.

    • ODOT – CAgT, CEBT, CAT l, CAT II, CMDT, CDT, QCT, CCT, CSTT
    • ACI – Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I, CSTT
