Materials Management Supervisor supervises daily operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Uses material requirement plans to ensure the required flow of materials is maintained. Being a Materials Management Supervisor coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations and staffing to enable workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Troubleshoots and resolves operational roadblocks. Additionally, Materials Management Supervisor may require a bachelor's degree in area of specialty. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Materials Management Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Management Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. Responsibilities: Planning, timely, cost-effective procurement, inventory control, planning and quality control of production materials. Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and material control systems to reduce costs, streamline procedures, and implement solutions. Ensure the availability of materials in the supply chain, as scheduled, and the maintenance of inventory at minimum acceptable levels. Coordinate with finance/accounting on matters involving inventory-carrying costs. Review and plan requirements for acceptable inventory. May work with customers in auditing customer inventory levels and with internal and external vendors to comply with inventory policies. Process purchase requisitions, purchase change orders and requests for quotes to suppliers. Responsible for procurement business system data input and integrity. Manage new product material flow for projects. Manage the entire materials process from concept to final release for moderate to very complex projects. Determine engineering needs, select the most appropriate suppliers, and work with suppliers to ensure requirements are met. Focus includes risk assessment for demands from internal and external customers, with the intent to minimize inventory exposure. May negotiate contracts; responsible for all components being available on time and ready to use. Conduct make or buy analysis prior to making outsourcing decisions.
