SUMMARY:
The Materials Manager is responsible for shipping & receiving, logistics, and inventory management. This position must provide leadership and direction for continuous improvement in supplier quality, supplier delivery and cost performance. Success will be measured by the ongoing improvement of on-time delivery, ongoing cost reduction, and ability to implement scalability to our long-term inventory management strategy.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and implement improvements, and maintain supply chain systems, policies, procedures in accordance with ISO-9000 and other regulatory agencies.
- Work with Planning and Purchasing to maintain appropriate inventory levels given upcoming
- Keep inventories of production materials within the established coverage levels with accurate system balances and with minimum obsolescence and scrap
- Review material suppliers with planning, purchasing and quality personnel to evaluate and improve service, quality, availability, shipping costs, stocking options, and price
- Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure the effective operation. This will include coaching and mentoring the team for optimal results and employee development. Conduct Performance Appraisals with reporting associates at least yearly setting goals and objectives, and reviewing training files.
- Have strong knowledge of lean manufacturing tools and be able to effectively apply them in the appropriate situations.
- Develop the short and long term unit and dollar inventory projections at the raw, sub-assembly, WIP and finished goods level
OTHER DUTIES:
- Appropriate total inventory investment
- Interaction with satisfaction of internal customers
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct Reports include: Warehouse Supervisor; Trade & Compliance Support Specialists, and Logistics Supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, business, engineering discipline, or technical degree with appropriate experience equivalent
- 5 years’ management experience in a complex manufacturing or industrial environment
- Strong continuous improvement background with knowledge of 5S, Kaizen, Lean and Value Stream Mapping
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in written formats
- Experience in materials planning, production control, purchasing, forecasting and/or master scheduling
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to translate technical specifications into customer/business requirements
- Experience troubleshooting and finding multiple solutions to a complex problem
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment
- Experience working within both a team environment and independently
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to synthesize and interpret technical data
- Must have strong technical and administrative skills.
- Must be able to interrelate well with personnel at all levels and possess good oral and written English communication skills.
WORK ENVIRONMENT and PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- The normal work environment is typical of a business office, manufacturing operation, and laboratory and clean room facilities.
- The incumbent is routinely required to (sit, stand, walk, touch, see, hear, etc).
- The incumbent must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
- While performing the regular duties of the position, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, and possible exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The incumbent must be able to wear safety equipment and follow safety instructions.
