Materials Control Manager manages daily operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Uses material requirement plans to ensure the required flow of materials is maintained. Being a Materials Control Manager coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations to improve operational efficiencies and workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Monitors operations and troubleshoots and resolves operational roadblocks. Additionally, Materials Control Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Control Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager.     Summary of Position

     

    The Materials Manager is responsible for all planning, purchasing, coordinating, and controlling of raw materials, finished goods and supplies based on customer needs.  This position will effectively lead and collaborate to achieve key strategic goals and objectives including, but not limited to: customer fill-rates and on-time shipments, inventory turns and level targets, cycle count accuracy goals, and supplier on-time, in-full targets. In addition, this position is a vital enabler of lean and continuous improvement within the operation.

     

    Primary Responsibilities: 

    • Leads team members within procurement, planning, and material functions of the operation. 
    • Responsible for the implementation, support and compliance of the Materials and S&OP standard work processes and systems to facilitate the fulfillment process from inventory planning to material procurement and warehousing, through product manufacture.
    • Achieves customer fill rates and overall inventory turn targets through effective execution of purchasing requirements including supplier interface as necessary. 
    • Engages with sales and production management to develop plans for managing inventory levels to support customer requirements.
    • Analyzes and optimizes plans by adjusting and maintaining safety stock, reorder point, lead time and other parameters in the ERP system.
    • Enhance Kanban system including pull signals, material flow, and stocking levels.
    • Coordinates resolution of material related issues with the appropriate departments and/or suppliers to ensure availability of required materials.
    • Work with Strategic Sourcing to improve supplier quality and delivery.
    • Implement processes and controls to achieve accuracy of inventory counts, capable of identifying discrepancies in inventory counts and completing root cause corrective actions to guard against inconsistencies in the future.
    • Operates as a lean leader emphasizing a kaizen culture and coaching team members to be autonomous problem solvers.
    • Develop, analyze, and communicate materials metrics and standards of performance.

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • At least 10 years of progressive experience in Planning or Purchasing, with at least 5 of those years managing employees.
    • Able to demonstrate comprehensive In-depth knowledge of computerized integrated information systems (manufacturing, materials management, production planning, and procurement) and a superior understanding of manufacturing material flow in a plant.
    • Able to identify and manage projects from concept to implementation and successfully drive project results.
    • Proven ability to lead change and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
    • Experience with lean manufacturing required with expertise on pull systems, Kanban, and Heijunka
    • A four (4) year college degree in a related field. 

     

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

    • APICS CPIM certification preferred
    • Must be a proactive change agent and possess leadership skills to build and maintain a team-oriented environment while leveraging lean methodologies.
    • Must be a flexible, decisive and proactive problem solver.
    • Must be a strong communicator and possess strong organizational skills, with ability to work on multiple priorities at once. 
    • Superior communication skills and unsurpassed customer support, both internally and externally.
