Materials Control Manager manages daily operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Uses material requirement plans to ensure the required flow of materials is maintained. Being a Materials Control Manager coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations to improve operational efficiencies and workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Monitors operations and troubleshoots and resolves operational roadblocks. Additionally, Materials Control Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Control Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Control Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Summary

    Inspect production materials and products, prepare samples and conduct testing to ensure compliance with DOT, customer, and Company standards on all materials. Prepare and maintain accurate data of testing results. Prepare various reports, work with outside vendors, agencies, and customers, and formulate specific recommendations to resolve or correct quality issues.

    Functional Responsibilities

    Ø Exhibit a strong work ethic with the ability to take direction and work in a team setting and independently.

    Ø Adhere to Permian Basin Materials Code of Conduct and company policies.

    Ø Inspect, sample, and conduct routine and special laboratory testing on construction aggregates, masonry products and Ready-Mix concrete in conformance with appropriate standard test methods.

    Ø Ensure quality of products during production, shipping, and at jobsites.

    Ø Communicate test results to supervisors and properly document the results in a database.

    Ø Prepare statistical summary quality reports.

    Ø Troubleshoot plant and jobsite problems.

    Ø Visually inspect material sources, stockpiles, and truckloads at ready-mix batch plants.

    Ø Conduct testing and assist in plant calibrations to ensure product quality.

    Ø Verify outside construction materials testing laboratory results and maintain accurate, timely records of test data, product quality and defective materials.

    Ø Complies with all Safety, Health, Environmental and other Company policies and procedures.

    Ø Performs other duties as directed.

    Competencies

    Ø Product Knowledge of concrete mix design characteristics and product specifications

    Ø Mathematical skills including weights and measurement conversions.

    Ø Excellent communication skills – oral and written.

    Ø Computer skills – Microsoft office applications

    Ø Strong organization skills

    Certifications

    Ø ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I

    Ø ACI Strength Testing Technician

    Ø ACI Aggregate Testing Technician – Level I

    Ø ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician – Level I

    Ø DOT Batch Plant Operation Certification

    EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/CERTIFICATIONS

    Ø High School diploma or equivalent

    Ø Three years laboratory testing experience in ready-mix concrete or construction aggregates properties preferred.

    Ø Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record.

    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    Ø Candidate must be drug free.

    Ø Position requires moderately strenuous physical work.

    Ø Must be able to:
    o Lift and carry up to 100 pounds from floor to 3’ – 5’ occasionally,

    o Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds frequently,

    o Climb in and out of equipment 50 times per day,

    o Climb up and down ladders occasionally,

    o Position self to stand, bend, hold and reach for extended periods of time to install and service equipment,

    o Use hands, fingers, and feet to operate and/or service heavy construction machinery and concrete mixers and haul trucks,

    o Travel safely while walking and while operating heavy machinery and/or trucks over uneven terrain, roads, and pavement,

    o See, hear, and respond to verbal, visual, and written instructions and to moving heavy construction machinery,

    o Wear proper protective equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, high visibility clothing, steel-toed boots, and gloves,

    o Observe all company Safety policies on company premises and while operating heavy construction machinery,

    o Continually work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions,

    o Work safely in wet, muddy, and slippery conditions occasionally,

    Ø Environment will vary from outdoors with varying noise levels and vibrations associated with construction equipment, and exposure to building materials, dust, and dirt at operating sites to a normal office environment.
