Materials Control Manager manages daily operations and planning to optimize the flow of raw materials, supplies, and equipment from initial procurement to the final disposition and fulfill material requirements for volume, cost, and scheduling business operations. Uses material requirement plans to ensure the required flow of materials is maintained. Being a Materials Control Manager coordinates procurement, warehouse, and distribution operations to improve operational efficiencies and workflows crucial to the flow of materials. Monitors operations and troubleshoots and resolves operational roadblocks. Additionally, Materials Control Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Materials Control Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Materials Control Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Provide leadership for the Planning, Inventory Control, and Logistics of the business by developing and maintaining systems and individual contributors that embraces our unique Dual Bottom-Line culture by placing equal emphasis on human development and financial performance.  Combines ability to communicate effectively to different audiences with strong data analysis skills and a desire to achieve.   

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Planning Team Leadership

    • Guides team of planners and inventory control specialists to achieve both long term and short term goals.  Creates collaborative and inclusive environment with the core values of Safety, Excellence, and Respect as a foundation.
    • Develops, motivates, and coaches employees in informal and formal settings using performance management software.
    • Organizes and supports core teams focused on safety and continuous improvement. 
    • Champions creation of best practices within scope of role (Physical Inventory process, cycle count, data analysis, min/max and Kanban level, etc.) across multiple businesses. 
    • Leads others to improve understanding, execution, and performance.

    Key metrics include Medical Treatment Case Rate, Safety Opportunity Corrected Rate, Department Headcount, Turnover Percentage.

    Performance Management

    • Analyzes performance against KPI’s in delivery and cost.
    • Leads and/or supports daily review on management boards to understand and remove obstacles holding team back. 
    • Partners with Product Line Team to leverage commercial initiatives.  
    • Ability to interpret, organize, and analyze reports such as Physical Inventory and cycle count results, Excess and Obsolete reports, Inventory Value and TTM DSI reports, build and use working capital model to identify proper stocking levels. 
    • Able to use ERP and other data systems to extract and analyze underlying inputs of these metrics to share with other stake holders and to identify root causes. 
    • Ability to find solutions and implement them in challenging circumstances. 
    • Analyzes lead time, delivery performance, and Material/Overhead/Purchase Price variances to identify waste and uses that to drive continuous improvement opportunities.

    Key metrics include On Time Delivery, Inventory Value.

    Strategic Leadership

    • Develops constructive collaboration with HR, Customer Support, Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, and other key stakeholders. 
    • Identifies trends through data analysis and works with cross-functional colleagues to understand and resolve root causes. 
    • Able to communicate in a multitude of ways throughout a matrix organization structure. 
    • Identifies sourcing, pricing, and lead-time challenges on components and prioritizes which ones to put effort into solving. 
    • Strong financial acumen to understand how the effectiveness of the planning and inventory control team impacts the financial statements.

    Key metrics include Capital Expense Budget, BPD Performance, and Business Road Map.

    JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or equivalent experience.
    • Minimum 4 - 8 years broad planning, manufacturing, or leadership experience within operations.
    • APICS Certification (CPIM) preferred.
    • Supervisory experience preferably in a manufacturing or logistical environment or related operation.
    • Ability to build, develop, and engage teams directly and indirectly. 
    • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and lead within and outside a matrix environment.
    • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills to understand how to influence the profitability of business units.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with varied audiences and settings.
