Communications and Marketing Specialist will:
Report directly to the NOS Outreach Director (with “on-site” support from Director of
Programming)
Always strive to uphold NOS Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values
Work to maintain good relationships with other NOS team members, community members, donors, funders, media outlets, and partner organizations
Public Relations and Social Media:
Build and maintain positive, meaningful relationships with community members, local
agencies, funders, donors, partner organizations, and media outlets
Promote NOS through public relations initiatives (be a positive NOS brand ambassador)
o Outreach events
o Presentations to partner organizations/donors
Develop and manage media relationships and coordinate/manage press interviews
Manage and evaluate NOS Social Media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, Flickr)
Work closely with NOS program staff to ensure social media content is timely, consistent,
informative and in line with NOS’s Digital Marketing plan
Research media coverage and social media trends
Marketing and Communications:
Create, maintain, and distribute marketing and promotional materials, both print and electronic:
o Newspaper (articles/press releases/advertisements)
o Program/Event flyers
o Promotional Materials
o Recruitment
Create and maintain organization literature and other forms of communication
Promote and market all NOS youth, training and community programs
Act as a “reporter” for NOS
o Attend NOS programs regularly (at least 2 each month) to take photos/videos and
create content
Assist Outreach Director with website management and operation
Work with other NOS staff to create and distribute electronic Mailchimp Newsletters
o Monthly community specific newsletters to targeted mailing lists
o Quarterly “Thanks for Being NOSome” newsletter
Assist with NOS staff and AmeriCorps Recruitment
General Role and Responsibilities:
Manage alignment, content, and organizational collaboration on all social media platforms, website content, and digital video distribution within the organization. This includes Instagram, Facebook, Flickr, Website, and YouTube
Work with Outreach Director to implement and monitor Digital Marketing plan and NOS goals for social media, social video (YouTube), and the website
Lead NOS Programming staff in content planning and scheduling, as well as provide guidance and feedback around strategic opportunities to increase impact.
Responsible for all social media platform development, maintenance, operation
Track all social media and web analytics, paid outreach, monitor & strategize around
viewership data on video platforms.
Other duties as assigned.
Continually work towards personal growth and sustainability of NOS programs:
Recruit sponsor organizations/businesses to fund aspects of NOS programs – time to be paid for by non-federal sources
Ensure timely creation of monthly expected expenses and supply lists for communications and marketing expenses
Network in all possible circumstances for the benefit of the program
Participate in professional development opportunities that support NOS and advance
professional goals
Assist in programs as needed
Skills/Experience Desired:
Excellent writing and editing skills, professional writing experience, preferred.
Photo and video-editing skills
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Outstanding organizational and time-management skills
Experience in web design and content production is a big plus
Excellent social media, web-based content and management skills including experience
creating engaging content using a variety of channels such as Facebook, YouTube, and
Solid time and project management skills/habits, with the ability to multi-task to deliver
adequate results and meet deadlines
Demonstrated attention to detail and the ability to stay focused on long-term priorities
Must be self-motivated, work well independently, and enjoy collaborating with a team
Proficiency with multimedia platforms and Microsoft Office
