    Research at the University of Notre Dame is growing rapidly. In the fiscal year 2022, the University garnered 244M in research awards breaking its record of 223M set the previous year. With over 800 unique awards representing a diverse set of sponsors, the need to develop a robust program to protect our research data has never been more critical. The University of Notre Dame seeks an inaugural Regulated Research Program Director (RRPD) to develop and manage a holistic process and program to support obtaining and compliantly using regulated and other sensitive data for research.

    The RRPD will create a system to identify regulated data as research awards are accepted, work with researchers to find the optimal solution, and develop monitoring and tracking processes. The RRPD provides the highest level of support to our researchers to ensure the data hygiene and security of unclassified information (CUI), protected health information (PHI), and information regulated by the Federal Information and Modernization Act (FIMSA), as examples. The RRPD is an educator, advisor, and skilled communicator who maintains cutting-edge knowledge of the research security landscape to facilitate research and ensure compliance with federal regulations. The RRPD is a key resource for campus and represents leadership on the Research Advisory Committee to prioritize projects to establish environments for regulated data. The RRPD also serves at as the Information Systems Security Management Program Director, supporting IT needs for the University's classified research programs

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelors degree and 3-4 years of experience in Information Technology
    • Ability to analyze and interpret federal and non-federal regulations
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to interface effectively with multiple faculty and staff on issues within the area of sponsored research in a cooperative manner
    • U.S. Citizenship
    • Must be eligible for and able to maintain a US Government security clearance
    • Understanding of how to protect information related to ITAR, EAR, HIPAA, and PII in addition to DoD controlled unclassified information and classified information
    • Ability to complete courses and certifications listed on the DSS Center for Development of Security Excellence website (http://www.cdse.edu/)



    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Possesses a CISSP or equivalent as identified in DoD 8570.01-M.
