Manufacturing Director oversees manufacturing operations and the production management and supervisory teams for a plant or unit. Incorporates organization-wide operational safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and cost control policies and programs into manufacturing processes. Being a Manufacturing Director monitors production metrics, responds to and resolves problems, and recommends process improvements, new technologies, and methods to maximize operational efficiency. Collaborates with leaders to manage and resolve workforce or labor issues and develop long-term solutions. Additionally, Manufacturing Director implements long-term plans for facilities, equipment, materials, technology, and workforce resources to maintain manufacturing capacity and processes that support business goals. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Manufacturing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Description:
1. Carries out process improvement, and problem resolution, and assists with project management.
2. Improves manufacturing processes and methods with the goal of cost reductions, quality improvements, and increased labor efficiencies.
3. Performs research, design and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment.
4. Performs product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
5. Designs, develops tests and cost-justifies various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
6. Prepares and maintains detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
7. Assists multiple departments in improving a system of production control, standard operating procedures, safety, quality control and minor training.
8. Writes new or updated process documentation including visual processes, work instructions, process prints, inspection plans, etc.
9. Determine suitable perishable tooling and durable tooling alternatives.
10. Writes new and /or makes modifications to existing CNC cutting tool programs.
11. Complete set-up sketches to be used by set-up personnel as needed.
12. Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning sessions with the project team to ensure process flows, process Failure Mode Effects Analysis, and control plans are properly developed and implemented.
