Major Gifts Manager manages and implements a philanthropic gift program to nurture and solicit relationships with corporate, institutional, and major donors. Develops a portfolio of existing and potential donors and a strategy to enhance and extend relationships to generate philanthropic revenue. Being a Major Gifts Manager organizes events and meetings with prospects to raise awareness of the organization's mission and highlight accomplishments and ongoing funding needs. Makes regular personal contact with key contributors to strengthen relations with the organization. Additionally, Major Gifts Manager oversees proposal preparation and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Major Gifts Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Major Gifts Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     STATUS: Exempt

    PRIMARY PURPOSE:

    The Manager of Major Gifts and Planned Giving works with the Director of Development to develop and implement a strategy targeting individuals capable of making significant annual contributions of $10,000 or more to support the mission. Balancing new initiatives with a focus on West Oahu while supporting and honoring our existing donors.

    The Manager of Major Gifts and Planned Giving is responsible for identification of prospective donors as well as qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and creative stewardship of a portfolio of existing donors. Working with the Director of Development, leads the planned giving program and Helen Kinau Wilder Legacy Society.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

    • Secure major gifts ($10,000 ) from donors.
    • Steward, qualify and solicit mid-level donors with the goal of upgrading and growing major gift prospects.
    • Execute a strategic plan to achieve individual major gift revenue and retention goals; exceed goals and objectives.
    • Maintain a working portfolio of individual major gift prospects and current donors raising at least $1,000,000 annually using fundraising database to accurately track interactions and progress.
    • Create and present meaningful interactions between donor or prospect and the staff.
    • Secure renewal gifts from current donors while increasing engagement and financial support.
    • Research, qualify, creatively cultivate, and solicit major gifts through face-to-face or meaningful / personal interactions with current and prospective donors.
    • Create and implement moves management plans custom to donors' interests, motivations, and giving patterns.
    • Write effective proposals and stewardship reports reflecting the impact of the gift
    • Ability to qualify donor opportunity and identify supporters that represent the highest giving capacity.
    • Create timely reports.
    • Work with the Director of Development to design and implement a planned giving program.
    • Set goals for planned gifts and regularly report progress to goal.
    • Identify, solicit and cultivate potential planned gift donors.
    • Develop a planned giving marketing plan to cultivate and steward ongoing donors and planned giving prospects.
    • Develop and maintain the Helen Kinau Wilder Legacy Society planned giving recognition.
    • Create a stewardship plan to maintain ongoing relationships with donors who have made planned giving commitments.
    • Create and execute planned giving events for both prospective planned giving donors and those in the Helen Kinau Wilder Legacy Society.
    • Develop marketing materials to support contact, marketing and calls with potential planned giving donors.
    • Join and attend professional groups and educational sessions as needed to keep informed on current trends.

    OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    JOB CONDITIONS:

    • Work Environment: Indoors in air-conditioned office. Outdoors for donor tours, meetings and special events.
    • Equipment Use: PC/Mac proficiency, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and standard office equipment use.
    • Hours: Regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday typical schedule, with other hours and days based on donor meetings, operational requirements, and special event needs.

    • Must have a flexible disposition to work with and engage a variety of donors, supporters, and businesses.
    • Must be able to meet with donors in person at indoor and outdoor
    • Must be able to travel to different locations.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Skills/Knowledge: Ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent presentation and writing skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with a proven ability to engage, motivate and inspire others to action. Demonstrated experience raising major gifts from donors. Strong work ethic. High level of organization, attention to detail and ability to be self-motivated. Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Knowledge of fundraising database software.
    • Education/Training: Bachelor's degree in non-profit management, communication, sales or related field or equivalent experience
    • Experience: 3 years' experience in fundraising, philanthropy, and working with donors. Experience with Raiser's Edge preferred.
