Maintenance Planner devises plans and programs for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a plant or production facility. Accurately defines and estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders. Being a Maintenance Planner develops inspection and survey procedures to ensure an effective preventative maintenance system. Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime. Additionally, Maintenance Planner utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible. Typically uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance. Monitors spare parts inventory to ensure availability of required parts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. May require a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Maintenance Planner work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project.     Position Overview: Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, performs a variety of administrative and technical support duties, including coordinating and developing the preventative maintenance database.

    Language Skills: English proficiency required. Spanish is a plus.

    Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

    Amount of Travel Involved: 10% of the time.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates development of preventive maintenance database, including data input, monitors, audits and maintains the accuracy and integrity of the preventive maintenance database.
    • Develops, produces, and assists in generating regular and special preventive maintenance system reports.
    • Researches, gathers data, analyzes, and documents Maintenance’s needs to automate current processing, address problem areas, and improve existing workflow within preventive maintenance system.
    • Provides technical assistance and training to Maintenance staff in the operation, configuration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting of preventive maintenance program.
    • Communicates with CMMS program vendor’s technical support staff regarding software upgrades, needed program modifications, and technical issues.
    • Along with Maintenance manager develops and maintains training materials and work instructions for maintenance program.
    • Effectively write work orders with clear and concise work scope. Plan for all jobs to increase “wrench time” and maximize efficiency. Compiles information into an electronic “job package” that is ready for Mechanics and communicates with Mechanics and Supervisors regarding critical steps in the process. Upon completion of jobs communicates with Mechanics and supervisors regarding ideas that would make future jobs more efficient. With maintenance management assistance
    • Research parts requirements.
    • Maintain a spreadsheet of all maintenance backlog and continually maintain no less than 2 weeks of ready backlog work ranked by area, priority, and equipment availability.
    • Communicate with Maintenance supervisors and manager the status of available work.
    • Attend the Weekly Scheduling Meeting.
    • Assist in making safety procedure including lock out tag out available to employees. Ensure all aspects of company safety policy are incorporated into the job plan.
    • Generates documentation to report to upper management.
    • General
      • Maintain a positive work atmosphere and interaction with customers, co-workers, and management.
      • All other duties as assigned.
      • Work scheduled shift, weekends, and extended hours as required.
      • Regular and punctual attendance.
    • To perform this job successfully, must be able to perform each fundamental task listed above satisfactorily.

    Experience for Success:

    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, Outlook) with the ability to learn new applications as required.

    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
    • Technically strong in being able to understand manufacturing and packaging equipment as well as complex diagrams.

    • Strong multi-tasking competency.
    • Maintains accurate record of work performed.
    • Performs various other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience plus 3 years of experience in manufacturing, maintenance planning or inventory coordination required.
    • Strong Maintenance Program experience preferred.
    • Prior experience with Maintenance Connection a plus.
