Maintenance Planner devises plans and programs for routine preventative maintenance and scheduled turnaround events at a plant or production facility. Accurately defines and estimates required work requests and maintains a consistent tracking system for work orders. Being a Maintenance Planner develops inspection and survey procedures to ensure an effective preventative maintenance system. Works closely with technicians, engineers, operations, and managers to establish a schedule of proactive maintenance activities during appropriate downtime. Additionally, Maintenance Planner utilizes planning and scheduling methods to ensure the most effective and least disruptive maintenance possible. Typically uses a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking and planning maintenance. Monitors spare parts inventory to ensure availability of required parts. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. May require a Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) certification. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Job Summary :
Maintenance Planner is responsible for scheduling preventative maintenance, planning of equipment repairs, monitoring, maintaining and procuring the necessary parts for scheduled maintenance, and supporting the overall maintenance strategy of the site.
The Maintenance Planner has the organizational freedom and authority, as defined by the Site Manager,to schedule manpower and secure materials for proper maintenance and to participate in the implementation of safety programs to ensure the safety of assigned employees.
Additionally, the Planner shall work with the appropriate Maintenance Supervisors to ensure that employees have received the appropriate training and tools required to satisfactorily perform their responsibilities and to ensure that such training has been appropriately recorded.
The Maintenance Planner is specifically given the responsibility and authority to initiate action to monitor and plan inspections and repairs of plant equipment so site safety, productivity, and spending goals are achieved.
The Planner participates in the site’s budget development process and monitors maintenance spending versus the budget.
The Maintenance Planner has the authority to identify and the responsibility to record any problems related to the product, process or system, and to initiate, recommend or provide solutions through the Maintenance Team (including contractors when necessary).
When solutions have been approved, the Maintenance Planner has the responsibility to participate in the implementation of those solutions through excellent communication, coordination, and scheduling.
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for participating in the implementation and maintenance of the site’s Preventive Maintenance program which includes creating new and reviewing existing PMs, while also adding new equipment information and bills-of-materials to the site’s equipment registry.
Reports to the Site Operations Manager and accountable to the respective Managers.
Coordinates with manufactures to ensure that proper tasks are performed on preventive maintenance. Helps initiate and implement procedures developed with Reliability Engineer and other Site leaders.
If not, requisitions necessary materials following up to learn when items will be received. Also validates all items charged to work order when work is completed.
