Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Role Summary:
Set up and operate a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. Includes precision instrument makers who fabricate, modify, or repair mechanical instruments. May also fabricate and modify parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
This is a 3rd shift position. Work hours: From 11:30 pm to 7:30 am. Location: Bridgeville, PA.
Responsibilities:
• Operate basic equipment and machines and carry out routine tasks.
• Carry out operational tasks by following established processes.
• Help to maintain and repair equipment by carrying out preparations and providing assistance.
• Follow basic mandatory work instructions to safeguard the environment and the wellbeing of oneself and others.
• Follow a straightforward mandatory procedure to ensure that work is carried out to the required quality standards and/or to ensure adherence to external regulatory codes and internal codes of conduct.
• Interpret and use precision measuring equipment/instruments such as micrometers, dial indicators, and depth gauges.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and geometric tolerances.
• Exchange information with people by having courteous interactions with them.
• Works with guidance to understand policies and procedures, while making sure they match organizational strategies and objectives.
• Uses clear and effective verbal communication skills to express ideas and request actions.
• Works with guidance to plan, organize, and prioritize activities to efficiently meet business objectives .
• Applies elementary concepts to manage and apply safe systems of work.
Requirements:
• HS Diploma / GED and 3-5 years relevant machining experience in a manufacturing or repair environment operating manual lathes, milling machines, or CNC lathes/mills.
• Experience with precision measurement tools.
Preferred Experience / Skills:
• - CNC programming experience will be highly valued.
