Machinist assembles, repairs, and fabricates parts or components for tools or machines by operating mechanical equipment. Reads and interprets blueprints and design sketches to determine the precise specifications, dimensions, and tolerance levels of the finished product. Being a Machinist selects and operates the appropriate tools to cut, shape, or finish metal, plastic, or composite material. Sets up, services, and maintains equipment to ensure efficient and safe operation. Additionally, Machinist utilizes precision measuring instruments to check the accuracy and quality of machined parts. Assembles parts into sub-units or complete units as necessary. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Machinist works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. The Machinist will use knowledge, skills, experience, and good judgement to produce a reliable, quality, airworthy product at a reasonable cost and optimum turn time while providing the highest quality of workmanship for all work accomplished. Previous aviation experience is valued, but not required.
Essential Functions include:
Ideal candidates will offer:
1. Job shop machinist with a minimum of (5) years-experience
2. Must possess a full understanding and hands-on experience with manual lathes, manual milling machines and related machine shop equipment
3. Strong mathematical skills
4. Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude
5. Proficient in the use of micrometers, Vernier calipers and indicators
6. This is a primarily standing position at least 80% of the day. Must be able to push/pull at least 50lbs., ability to reach above, bend over and carry at least 30 lbs.
