Logistics Manager manages all aspects of an organization's logistics management function to control, deliver, and distribute products and materials to the destination. Implements an overall strategy, metrics, and processes to deploy an optimized logistic network and operations. Being a Logistics Manager oversees critical and related inventory, distribution, and transportation operations that support the achievement of organizational goals and KPI's for product delivery and customer satisfaction. Selects vendors and negotiates rates and service levels and monitors performance. Additionally, Logistics Manager ensures compliance with all regulations governing transportation of goods. Utilizes analytics to monitor and measure performance, identify problems in operations, and achieve high performance at optimal cost. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Logistics Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Logistics Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Overview

    Responsible for the procurement of grain and growing relationships with producers. Negotiate contracts and coordinate the logistics and movement of grains. Accounting functions include billing customers, processing farmer settlements, and submitting required reporting.

    Job Description

    • Communicate with producers over the phone, on the farm, and at marketing meetings to inform them of market trends, current pricing, and overall agricultural business.
    • Work to grow new customers within trade territory and capture additional market share of grain production from existing customers.
    • Build and maintain long-term relationships with key accounts. Gain in-depth knowledge and insights into a customer’s goals to target procurement tactics.
    • Maintain knowledge of grain contracts offered by NSG to producers and explore potential grain marketing tools.
    • Oversee execution of customer contracts on both delivered and FOB purchases.
    • Understand grain hedging and applicable risk management processes and regularly assist in managing the company’s risk positions.
    • Effective understanding of regional grain markets and monitor competitiveness in setting bids and assisting in making company sales.
    • Assist accounting department in providing timely and accurate grain settlements to producers.
    • Respond to customer complaints, questions, and requests in a timely manner.

    Daily Activities

    • Enter scale tickets for inbound and outbound grain and apply to contracts.
    • Sort rock and salt tickets, sales receipts.
    • Oversee grain-related financial transactions, including purchase, sales, and inventory management.
    • Grade inbound and outbound grain. Communicate with partners if off-grade grain is a problem. Send samples to partners.
    • Hedge daily corn purchases or sales.
    • Manage bid sheet for grain prices and outbound rolled corn.
    • Manage railcars for NSG and customers.
    • Maintain business licenses.
    • Balance DPR daily, set storage rates and handling fees.
    • Maintain certifications for moisture testers and scales.
    • Maintain Organic Grain Certification, OSP and compliance.
    • Oversee annual audit.
    • Manage organic certification of inbound loads.
    • Distribute clean truck and rail car affidavit.
    • Work with producers on origination.
    • Grade and send off samples during harvest.
    • Coordinate truck and rail movement during the year.

    Originator Essential Functions

    • Maintain contact with producers and end users including farm visits. Daily contact with producers when the market is moving.
    • Enter purchase contracts.
    • Enter sales contracts.
    • Coordinate with producers on Bids and shipments.

    Accounting Essential Functions

    • Process farmer settlements and issue grain settlement payments.
    • Invoice grain sales, contract storage and transloading fees.
    • Submit monthly grain insurance reports and quarterly grain tax reports.

    Qualifications

    Education

    • Post high school training at the college or vocational level desirable.
    • Grain Marketing training preferred.
    • Experience may be substituted for education.

    Experience

    • 3 to 5 years grain marketing experience desirable.
    • Good people skills necessary.
    • Strong verbal and writing skills necessary.
    • Computer skills required (Word and Excel)
    • Ag background a plus

    Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per hour
