Logistics Director manages all aspects of an organization's logistics management function to control, deliver, and distribute products and materials to the destination. Implements an overall strategy, metrics, and processes to deploy an optimized logistic network and operations. Being a Logistics Director oversees critical and related inventory, distribution, and transportation operations that support the achievement of organizational goals and KPI's for product delivery and customer satisfaction. Selects vendors and negotiates rates and service levels and monitors performance. Additionally, Logistics Director ensures compliance with all regulations governing transportation of goods. Utilizes analytics to monitor and measure performance, identify problems in operations, and achieve high performance at optimal cost. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Logistics Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Logistics Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.   • RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL TASKS  Daily coordination of all logistics activities, including 3rd party responsibilities, deliveries and backhauls. Serves as backup to dispatch for additional coverage. Organizes departmental files and maintains logs, charts and reports. Provides information for analyzing department KPI’s. Assists in the completion of department reporting (fuel, mileage, maintenance, billing …etc.) on a timely basis. Assists with safety and DOT reporting. Files documents in logistics systems. Aids in the monitoring of damaged trays and racks to ensure that they are systematically removed from use, repaired and promptly returned. Responds to problems and seeks resolutions in a timely manner, or elevates to superior. Trains/retrains as required by company training guidelines (i.e. annual GMPT). Keeps area of assigned work neat and clean at all times. Assists other employees when possible. Does not change job procedures without authorization from supervision. Performs all other related assignments and training of other employees as required. Performs other duties as needed or assigned by management. Always operates according to company core values of caring, commitment, and integrity. Every employee is responsible for ensuring the highest degree of food safety and producing a quality product by following the standard operating procedures and adhering to the quality control standards.  Anything which negatively affects or potentially affects the quality of the product (including damaged or inferior ingredients and produced product) must immediately be resolved by the employee or brought to the attention of a Supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience Work requires a minimum of a high school diploma.  College degree preferred in a related field (i.e. logistics, business, etc). Entry level position, willing to train the right person. Prior experience in a similar role in the transportation/distribution/logistics industry is helpful.   Skills and Abilities Computer skill is essential.  Proficiency in MS Office and high level of skill in excel is required. Proficiency in Logistics programs is helpful. Must be self-motivated with great initiative and ability to work independently. Must be highly organized, detail oriented and capable of multi-tasking. Ability to take ownership and be accountable for issue resolution.   Analytical Ability Analytical ability required in order to gather, maintain and interpret data in situations where the problems are somewhat complex in dealing with people, equipment and deadlines.   Independent Judgment and Consequence Of Errors Independent judgment is often required.  Some direct guidance is received from manager and/or from established procedures, policies or instructions.  Must be able to solve problems in a fast-paced environment. The impact of errors would result in minor cost in time and/or money.   Contact with Others Internal Daily communications with subordinates and supervisors from other departments takes place.  Must possess good communication skills.   External Regular contact with outsiders such as customers or vendors/outside contractors.  Work of Others No responsibility for the work of others. WORK SCHEDULE  Work schedule is as determined by Supervisor PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Requires mental and visual ability to identify numerous varieties of product, to identify colors and to input information into a computer.  Must be able to do basic math calculations to count add, subtract, multiply and divide.  Capable of physically moving in and out of a standard tractor/trailer.  Physical activities required are sitting, standing, walking, crouching, climbing, reaching to height of seven (7) feet, twisting, stooping, lifting, carrying, grasping, balancing to complete assigned job tasks.  Ability to clearly hear and talk is necessary for communication with vendors and/or other employees. Capable of understanding instructions and reading information, vehicle instrument panel, notices and work schedules.  Must be able to interpret and apply state, federal and DOT requirements.  Memory skill required for recall of product, location and schedule.  Capable of keeping a running count of one item when sorting, staging, stacking, etc. Must be able to work courteously and effectively with others, and to assist co-workers as required.
