Forester/Log Buyer Position

Swanson Brothers Lumber Co., Inc. (Swanson Brothers) owns and operates a large log custom cutting mill for the purpose of manufacturing Douglas-fir lumber products. We are located in Noti, Oregon.

Swanson Brothers is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Forester/Log Buyer.

Essential Functions:

• Buying logs and writing log purchase agreements.
• Contract administration (hiring and checking contractors while following contract specs)
• Back up for log yard operations. Operating equipment, metal detection, etc.
• Remanufacturing logs with a chainsaw.
• Tree farm projects (PCT, herbaceous treatments, tree planting/inspections, stocking surveys, commercial thinning, harvest unit layout, buffer installation, road layout)
• Timber sale and Timberland appraisals.
• Assist in writing silvicultural prescriptions.
• Other projects as assigned by the Timber Manager.

Qualifications:

• A degree in Forestry or closely related field preferred.
• Minimum 1-year Forestry related experience.
• A valid Driver’s License required.
• Computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel.
• Working knowledge of Oregon Forest Practices Act.
• Pesticide applicators license ( Can be obtained at a later date)
• CDL/Heavy Equipment experience a plus but not required.
