Locksmith is responsible for the maintenance, installation, repair, and troubleshooting of locks and keys. Duplicates keys and replaces and re-keys locks as necessary. Being a Locksmith may install or maintain emergency exit systems and electronic access equipment and devices. May design new key or lock systems for an organization. Additionally, Locksmith maintains a thorough records of changes and additions to an organization's key systems. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Locksmith works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. Position Function/Purpose
ROLE AND PURPOSE:
To work with the MISD structural department as the door and lock decision, to maintain, repair, upgrade and install door lock and millwork hardware. Maintain district keying system in a safe, secure, efficient and operational manner
Major Responsibilities
1. Be able to analyze hardware system problems to board level and effect repairs
2. Be able to replace outdated hardware systems with new replacement hardware of different design and configuration
3. To assist in the long range planning, it is necessary to be familiar with the theory and mathematics of the locks and key operation
4. Generate and maintain accurate keying records
5. Set up and instigate a 3 or 4 level keying system for all school properties
6. Able to work with the internal parts of locks and exit devices is a must, and a general mechanical aptitude is
7. The ability to install, adjust, and repair door closes
8. Operation of key related machines, and construction related power hand tools is required
9. General carpentry experience is an asset, due to the need to be able to build or repair door jambs, hang doors, replace hinges etc.
10. Other duties as assigned by Maintenance Operations Supervisor or Executive Director of School Plant Services
Qualification Requirements
Minimum Certification/Education:
1. High School Diploma or GED
2. Valid Texas Drivers License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
1. Basic training and knowledge in door and lock hardware repair and new installation
2. Basic training and knowledge in general builders hardware including millwork hardware and miscellaneous
toilet hardware
3. Basic training and knowledge in door lock keying and key coding
Minimum Experience:
1. Prior experience in door and lock hardware repair or installation
