QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two years of experience in the locksmithing trade.

SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the locksmithing trade will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To install, repair, open, re-key etc., combination and key locks and make new keys or reset combinations as necessary.

LEVEL OF WORK:
Experienced.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from trades foreman, maintenance supervisor, or agency official of higher grade.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
None.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:
Differs from Apprentice by the performance of journeyman level locksmith work.

Differs from supervisory jobs by the lack of the required supervisory responsibility.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:
EXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Disassembles and repairs locks of all types, replaces worn parts.

Makes keys.

Rekeys locks.

Opens combination and key locks by manipulation or by using power tools.

Keeps records of all types of agency locks and keys issued.

Repairs, opens, and changes combination of locks.

Directs and trains assigned helpers and apprentices.
