The Department of Administration is looking for a Cashier to assist the City’s Tax Collection Division with their payroll tax administration while ensuring taxes comply with all state laws and municipal directives. This role will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative, transactional, and record-keeping duties such as preparing and mailing out tax notices, and managing payment agreements and delinquent bills.
Job Duties:
· Receives cash and/or checks for payment of rental fees, taxes, water fees, licenses, and so forth.
· Operates a cash register to process all incoming tax payments.
· Prepares simple financial statements by adding or subtracting totals to provide specific information needed.
· Operates a cash register to list and total the price of individual items purchased, collect cash and make changes, and reconcile cash receipts with the cash register tape.
· Follows established guidelines and computes interest on delinquent bills.
· Manages received cash or check tax payments, totals cash and checks for bank depositing, and prepares financial statements.
· Answers routine inquiries from customers at the counter or over the phone, such as late charge fees, price of licenses, cost of items, closing time, and so forth.· Maintains records and files.
· Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education: High School or GED diploma.
Required Experience: One (1) year of experience in clerical work.
Essential Skills:
· Ability to interpret laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to municipal tax collection.
· Demonstrated experience in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department heads, staff, and elected or appointed officials.
· Ability to prepare accurate and complete reports on the status of tax collections on a current basis.
· Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes.
· Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Attention to detail with the ability to prioritize to meet deadlines.
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel with the ability to learn new computer programs.
· Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
This is a Civil Service Job and you must eventually pass and qualify for the applicable Civil Service title.
