    SUMMARY:
    Manage a specific area of claims in litigation against the Company and involving the company. Provide coverage advice to the claims department and work directly with coverage attorneys to assist with coverage law analysis in states where ACIC conducts business.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Assist and provide coverage and legal advice to litigation adjusters in the proper handling of coverage and liability issues
    • Manage outside coverage counsel and directly handle bad faith lawsuits against ACIC and DJ actions involving claim matters
    • Work directly with Litigation Director on lawsuits against the company and with the discovery process
    • Assist with claims related responses to the Department of Insurance and E&O reporting
    • Provide training, guidance, and mentor personnel in the unit
    • Analyze, review, and interpret policies to resolve coverage issues
    • Establish and maintain proper loss and expense reserves
    • Determine what investigation and discovery is necessary to bring litigation to an equitable conclusion for all parties involved.
    • Properly document information in the claim file.
    • Maintain working diary of assigned matters
    • Evaluate and settle litigation involving ACIC within assigned authority
    • Ensure employee objectives, performance and evaluations are consistent with department goals and objectives by performing quarterly and annual personnel performance evaluations
    • Have daily contact with attorneys and/or vendors and/or agents and/or underwriters
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information, company information and policies
    • Perform other similar or related duties as assigned

    REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    • A four-year degree from an accredited institution.
    • Law degree from an accredited institution required.
    • Five years successful claim handling experience.
    • Knowledge of and adherence to the state laws and regulations governing the handling of claims.
    • Sound understanding of claims, mathematics, construction, insurance policies, medical terms, legal issues, underwriting and marketing.
    • Excellent time management and communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Good computer skills.
    • Demonstrated and proven success in handling claims, including advanced skills in coverage, investigation, litigation, negotiation, damage/injury evaluation, salvage, and subrogation.
    • A resident adjuster’s license in North Carolina.
    • A non-resident adjuster’s license where required in the states where we do business.


    MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    The ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to think independently, to collect, compile and organize facts and figures in accordance with established procedures. The ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions in written or diagram form and reasoning skills.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
