Lineman constructs, maintains, and repairs overhead and underground transmission lines. Performs site preparation tasks, including digging holes or trenches, installing anchors, climbing poles, and using equipment like digger derricks, aerial lifts, pulling and tensioning equipment, forklifts, and dump trucks. Being a Lineman installs wire and cable. Follows all safety regulations and procedures. Additionally, Lineman work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Requires a valid Driver's License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Lineman works under moderate supervision.     Job Summary:

    The Lineman II position will install, maintain and repair services for our customers. The position requires attention to detail in regards to setting up heavy duty power equipment and hand tools in the construction and repair of outside plant facilities, conduit and pole lines. Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned. This position requires field work which may include overtime, weekends, holidays, and off hours. Travel will be required depending on the needs of the business.


    What you will be doing:

    • Understands the standards, materials, techniques and equipment used in the installation, maintenance and repair of fiber optic OSP/ISP
    • Have the ability to read and understand prints, splice matrix and specification sheets
    • Follow design engineered instructions and specifications, maintain the scope of work on project
    • Strong knowledge of building strand, lashing, pole transfers and grounding required
    • Have proven ability to climb poles and ladders safely
    • Understand how to proficiently set up the job (strand, fiber and caddies)
    • Understand clearances from the other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk, and non-pedestrian areas
    • Can perform accurate redlining in the field
    • Accurately complete daily production forms, project activity reports and all other documentation pertaining to work assignments
    • Proficient in the use of OSP construction equipment. (Aerial Lifts, Dozers, Lashers, Meters, Plows, etc.)
    • Performs various types of construction operations which all require heavy physical labor and lifting.
    • Performs housekeeping duties for assigned vehicles and tools.
    • Follows OSHA, NESC, and Metronet safety regulations and precautions when completing assigned work
    • Assists with training for junior roles by mentoring and offering opportunities for improvement

    What You Need For This Position:

    • High school diploma or the equivalent is required. Advanced technical training required.
    • NCTI/SCTE certifications desirable
    • Four years minimum outside plant experience
    • Thorough understanding of NESC, OSHA, and related state and local codes with ability to implement in the field
    • Windows based software skills (AutoCAD, Excel, Word, Access) preferred
    • Strong planning, organizational, and follow up skills
    • Good analytical and communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively with multiple department staffs
    • Ability to recognize priority issues and escalate accordingly
    • Must have color vision and ability to adjust focus
    • Ability to accept higher level tasks when performing roles in the field, safe operation of digger derrick, all reel trailer functions, and all tools associated with aerial construction activities
    • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner
