    Web Developer

    KET is Kentucky’s only statewide media organization, serving more than two million people each week with programs and services that educate, inform, and inspire.  In addition to broadcasting PBS programming, KET produces a variety of award-winning local productions and creates high quality, nationally recognized educational resources.  As a member of our team, you’ll help bring learning to life for viewers and users in Kentucky.

    Do you have a passion for web development?  Are you eager to explore new opportunities in technology?  KET is looking for a Web Developer with experience in JavaScript frameworks who can apply a creative approach and is eager to learn new skills.

    The Digital Product Development team operates multiple websites to support KET’s mission to provide educational content to students, teachers, and families.  The team maintains websites running with React and Next.js, sites based on WordPress and Moodle CMS’s, and an in-house API within a robust cloud infrastructure.


    Our ideal Candidate will:

    Create and maintain custom code for KET’s digital ecosystem.

    Exhibit professional level of skill in web technologies.

    Maintain brand guidelines and the KET aesthetic in all work.

    Have a strong understanding of good UX/UI design.

    Demonstrate working knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure.

    Have experience working with third-party APIs.

    Work individually and collaboratively with teammates.

    Learn third-party systems that interface with KET’s digital properties.

    Participate in training and code reviews to expand skills.

    Follow cybersecurity best practices in day-to-day job functions and code development.

    Understand and follow OWASP, W3C and WCAG best practices and compliance standards.


    Successful applicants will have the following minimum qualifications, skills, and experience:

    Completed training or relevant college courses in web development or can demonstrate competency through portfolio of work.

    Firm understanding of the software development lifecycle and best practices.

    Familiarity with Git version control.

    Proficient knowledge in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript frameworks such as React and Next.js.

    Strong written and verbal communication skills.

    Preferred Experience:

    Experience working with content management systems including WordPress, Moodle, and SharePoint.

    Skilled in PHP and PHP frameworks.

    Competency in code distribution methods including Node.js and NPM.

    Understanding of container-based and cloud-based infrastructure.

    Participation in Test Driven Development and testing libraries such as Jest, Cypress, and phpUnit.

    Exposure to programming around video content and streaming media.
