Life Underwriting Supervisor supervises group of underwriters who review, analyze and inspect life insurance contracts. Accepts, modifies or declines a risk through evaluation of an individual's medical history or physical condition, occupational hazards, financial background, insurable interest and other information. Being a Life Underwriting Supervisor analyzes various rate plans utilizing the organization's claims history to determine the appropriate rate plan and benefits costs. Familiar with current legislative and compliance processes affecting life insurance. Additionally, Life Underwriting Supervisor may evaluate reinstatements and changes in existing policies. May have designations or course work toward the CLU, FLMI, etc. Has a sound working knowledge of medical terminology. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Life Underwriting Supervisor supervises a small group of para-professional staff in an organization characterized by highly transactional or repetitive processes. Contributes to the development of processes and procedures. Thorough knowledge of functional area under supervision.     Your impact as an Underwriting Professional II

    Our Underwriting Professional II will be responsible for rating, reviewing and underwriting management liability (Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability, & Fiduciary Liability) coverage through our facility. This position includes underwriting review and rating of sophisticated new and renewal risks within designated Affinity programs targeting the non-profit segment. The position requires extensive review and analysis of submissions, capturing data and assessing risk against established management liability underwriting guidelines.

    The Underwriting Professional II is responsible for using rating tools and inputting information into internal underwriting systems. Accountable for accurate risk assessment and documentation and implementing sound decisions/recommendations while deploying clear communication with the internal senior underwriting team and clients.

    Job Responsibilities:
    • This position requires maintaining a detailed knowledge of underwriting guidelines, carrier forms, products and competitive landscape.
    • Provide customer support and assistance to direct clients, brokers and prospects to make recommendations and guide/educate on products. A key component of the position will be timely and accurate delivery of new proposals to retail agents/brokers in an effort to hit growth targets.
    • Responsible for underwriting, acquiring and servicing policies.
    • Will achieve successful results through telephone work (both incoming and outgoing calls) along with correspondence via email, fax and mail.
    • Supervise, track and follow-up on proposals to ensure customer and broker satisfaction.
    • Use sound judgment and independent thinking to achieve the maximum result within authority and state guidelines
    • Identify premium growth opportunities with current book by cross sell offering other coverage
    • Collect/supervise competitive intelligence on all key competitors within assigned areas; anticipate client's needs by contributing to research and development of products /endorsements
    • Work with clients or brokers to provide coverage overviews and clarifications
    • Works independently with moderate guidance and supervision
    • Actively seeks out new and ambitious projects

    Required Experience:
    • Experience in carrier underwriting capacity or working in retail or wholesale broker space with management liability lines is highly desired.
    • Experience reviewing applications and following instructions based on underwriting guidelines as established for the program.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong analytical skills and familiarity in working with carrier underwriting systems.
    • Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment
    • Self-motivated, highly organized and detail oriented.
    • Experience with MS Office suite products, proficiency with Excel required.
    • Property & Casualty license preferred - must be acquired within six months of hire date.

    Education:
    • Four- year Bachelor's degree in relevant field, or equivalent work experience.

    The salary range for this position is $73,000 to $93,000 annually 15% target bonus annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
