Library Services Manager manages the daily planning, staff, and operations for the acquisition, classification, maintenance, licensing, and distribution of print and digital materials to meet the information needs of library users. Coordinates process to research, review, identify and procure new materials to develop the library's collection. Being a Library Services Manager performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Develops and oversees support, service, and technology resources to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, Library Services Manager requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Library Services Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Library Services Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Job Summary
    The Youth Services Consultant performs highly complex, senior-level consultative work and reports to the Continuing Education and Consulting Manager, in the Library Development and Networking Division at the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The Youth Services Consultant collaborates to ensure Texas libraries are knowledgeable about and have resources to implement youth services that meet the needs of their communities. The Youth Services Consultant also serves as a primary contact for internal, statewide, and national initiatives and projects relating to youth services. This position coordinates project goals with other division/agency programs and works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.


    Essential Tasks
    Implement, coordinate, and promote a statewide summer library program for preschoolers, children, teens, and adults.
    Coordinate and implement statewide early childhood and family literacy initiatives.
    Collaborate with internal and external partners to enhance TSLAC programs related to youth services.
    Maintain a variety of resources for assigned projects via agency website, blog, and newsletters.
    Coordinate, implement, and present a statewide program of learning related to youth services and similar topics.
    Consult with Texas librarians, library boards, and interested citizens in the area of youth services.
    Perform other duties as assigned.
    Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
    Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.

    Job Summary

    Environmental/Physical Conditions
    Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve moving; standing; pulling and pushing kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skill and coordination to safely move items weighing up to 15 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends as needed. Normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies and interpret data. Regular travel up to 20% by automobile and airplane, some overnight, will be required to conduct training, speak publicly, and attend meetings.
