Coordinating Librarian - Youth and Family Services

Pierce County Library System is excited to welcome a Coordinating Librarian for Youth and Family Services to help us support programs and services specifically for children ages birth to 12 and their families. This position is a member of our Programs and Services team which includes Coordinators, Coordinating Librarians, and Programs and Services Managers that help support the development and implementation of system-wide programs and services at PCLS. This position will work in a collaborative environment with other members of the Youth and Family Services team who collectively serve youth ages birth to 19 and their caregivers.
This position directly supervises staff members who help provide programs for children across the Pierce County. This position also provides support for approximately 25 additional Youth Services staff through training and development and helps staff align their work with our strategic goals. A willingness to learn and apply strategies for equity, inclusion, diversity and accessibility will be expected in the design, implementation, and evaluation of our programs and services. The Coordinating Librarian will work both independently and as a part of teams. Skills in project management, facilitation of work teams, and community engagement will be used on a daily basis.
Experience in a library or informal learning environment applying research and best practices to support not only beginning and independent readers, but also early learners and STEAM learning, will be helpful when providing leadership in these areas for the Library. The Coordinating Librarian assists the Youth and Family Services Manager in identifying and developing training and the development of staff. Community input and data will be used by the Coordinating Librarian to assess and enhance existing programs, as well as developing new programs in collaboration with the Youth and Family Services Manager. This position forms and maintains relationships with community partners, helps keep the Library apprised of county and state changes affecting children, and helps connect county and state service providers to local communities and branch libraries. Some examples of recent work include support for play group partnerships, support for the Library’s annual Summer Reading Program, and guiding staff through Early Learning training.
Hiring Range: $74,424.71 - 86,274.72 annually Pay Grade Range: $74,424.71 - 103,012.07 annually
Compensation
Pierce County Library System offers a compensation program which recognizes qualifications and experience relevant to each position. The starting pay is established typically within the hiring range below based upon the experience of the individual hired into the role. Our compensation package also includes annual increases for each additional year of experience and tenure in the role, up to the maximum (current year maximum outlined in pay grade range above). Eligibility for overtime is exclusive to positions which are FLSA status non-exempt below.

Work is conducted in a normal office setting or library environment that provides comfortable lighting, temperature and air conditions and/or regular contact with the public. When delivering service outside of PCLS locations, weather, physical, and environmental conditions will vary and work will adhere to additional PCLS safety protocols. Occasional light lifting, such as three to four reams of paper, four or five books, or other library materials up to 35 pounds may be required. Subject to sitting and standing for extended periods of time, talking, bending, reaching, and lifting objects weighing up to 30-35 pounds. May lift or push up to 50 pounds as needed. Must be able to lift and carry library materials and push/pull loaded carts.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices or meeting rooms, e.g. use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire regulations.
