    Job Summary/Basic Function
    The librarian holds primary responsibility for oversight of library collections, including budget management and development of print and digital collections. The librarian promotes a culture of accessibility, diversity, innovation, and ethical practices in leading the library’s collections, collaborating with librarians and staff to build and manage diverse collections that support teaching and learning. Using evidence-based collection development and management strategies, the librarian proactively develops and leads effective approaches to managing print and electronic collections. The librarian coordinates with the systems librarian to ensure consistent access across vendor systems, WMS, and campus systems, and collaborates with the library director on related aspects of library administration and operations. This role oversees information management services and supervises staff members that support that work. Reporting to the Dean of Academic Services and Operations/Library Director, the incumbent will assist the Dean/Library Director in ensuring smooth operations of the library. The incumbent will be student-centered, committed to continuous improvement and collegial collaboration, and will contribute to the mission and strategic vision of the college.
    Responsibilities:
    1. Serve as assistant library director, with primary responsibility for managing the library collections budget.
    • Collaborate with the Dean of Academic Services & Operations; Library Director to define and implement a collections budget strategy.
    • Establish strategic priorities for library collections, in support of teaching, learning, and research.
    • Oversee annual collections budget allocation process.
    • Monitor Banner and WMS budgets (including deposit accounts).
    • Consult with school deans on allocations and resources supporting school programs.
    • Consult with grants officer, school deans, and other administrators on grant funding to support library collections.

    2. Oversee library digital collections.
    • Manage e-resources and overall digital collections infrastructure.
    • Serve as the primary contact to vendors and Minitex (including cooperative purchasing and ELibrary Minnesota resources).
    • Negotiate purchases and renewals with vendors and Minitex.
    • Oversee licensing and annual renewal of e-resources.
    • Coordinate and oversee ongoing assessment of e-resources.
    • Collaborate with campus partners to advocate for and promote use of library and open access content as low/no cost alternatives for course materials.
    • Monitor marketplace for new resources.
    • Promote training and professional development opportunities provided by vendors related to e-resources and library collections.

    3. Coordinate management of print collections, in consultation with Access Services.
    • Manage shared collection commitments in the Minnesota Shared Collection Program (Minitex Shared Print Operations Committee).
    • Consult with library staff to identify annual weeding targets and projects.
    • Consult with college archivist on management of old, rare, and valuable collections in archives and special collections.

    4. Oversee information management services, including supervision of Serials Coordinator and Acquisitions/Cataloging Coordinator.
    5. Serve as liaison to selected departments and interdisciplinary programs in the college’s three schools, depending on experience and interests.

    6. In the absence of the dean/director, provide operational support to facilitate the smooth functioning of library services, to ensure the centrality of the library in student academic achievement, advancement in teaching and learning, and student-faculty intellectual engagement.

    7. Collaborate with systems librarian on technical support issues, overlap between Eresources, WMS/Discovery, A-Z List, and EZProx7. Assist with the collection and preparation of data for surveys, reports, and assessments.

    This is a 12-month staff position, with PTO accrual. The librarian will receive an administrative faculty appointment, with rights and privileges of faculty in accordance with the Concordia College faculty handbook.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • ALA accredited degree or international equivalent
    • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
    • Experience working in a collaborative environment
    • Experience in eresource licensing
    • Supervisory experience
    • Experience in data-informed decision making
    • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in library collections and services
    • Knowledge of collection development practices and principles

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of the evolving scholarly communication and publishing marketplace, including copyright and intellectual property
    • Knowledge of library systems and emerging technologies
    • Data analytic skills and experiences
