Minimum Educational Requirement for Position - Master's Degree in Library & Information Science (state requirement)

The Upshur County Public Library (UCPL) is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Director. The UCPL is a full service library located in Buckhannon, WV, a progressive college community approximately two hours south of Pittsburgh, PA and two hours north of Charleston, WV.

The successful candidate must be an effective communicator, have strong organizational skills, and possess a sound work ethic. Experience with grant writing, social media, and outreach services would be essential. Proficiency with technology and prior supervisory skills would be beneficial. Along with supervising the daily operation of the library, a major component of this position will be seeking new ways to engage and promote lifelong reading experiences to our patrons of all ages through programming and community outreach. UCPL primarily serves a county with a population of about 25,000. In addition, the UCPL is a service center library, providing administrative services and professional consultation to 14 affiliate libraries in a six county region. UCPL has an annual operating budget of approximately $350,000 and a staff of 5 FTEs and 2 part-time employees.

The minimum requirement for the position is an MLS from an ALA-accredited program and three years of professional library service, supervisory experience would be beneficial. A successful candidate must be available to work 1 evening a week and every 3rd Saturday. The salary will be $37,500 annually, with a competitive benefits package.
