The Rye Public Library is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and highly organized self-starter to join our youth department. Our newly hired librarian will work with youth of all ages. Interested parties should be prepared to create and run programs for our wonderful youth population, and will also be responsible for some administrative tasks as well as other duties as assigned.
This full-time position offers benefits and requires some day, evening and weekend hours.
Primary responsibilities include the development and implementation of youth programs with a focus on middle school and teen programming as well as overseeing ongoing programming already in place; passion for working with children and teens is a must! The position will also require shelving, collection development, conducting reference interviews, preparing weekly programming announcements as well as updating our online calendar and website, updating our social media platforms, working at the circulation desk, and other duties as assigned.
Skill/Qualifications
· The ability to work independently and is a self-starter
· A positive attitude and ability to work with a team
· A working knowledge of and enthusiasm for youth literature
· A passion for working with youth of all ages
· An understanding of the daily operations of a library
· Excellent organizational, readers' advisory, and interpersonal skills
· Excellent written and oral communication skills
· At least two years' experience in teen programming or similar experience
· An MLIS degree or is enrolled in an MLIS program
· The ability to manage events with large groups of people
· Strong public speaking skills
· An understanding of and capacity for using emerging technologies
· A working knowledge of social media platforms, with an emphasis on Instagram and TikTok
· Experience with 3D printing, Canva, Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher
· Strong technology skills, with an emphasis on website work
· The ability to pivot and adapt to workplace change
· The ability to think creatively, innovate, and generate forward-thinking ideas
