    The Prince George's County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) is seeking an Executive Director for its Support Services Division.

     

    This is a highly advanced and strategic leadership position that directs and manages the business operations, services and activities of the library system including Facilities, Safety and Procurement; oversees the development, planning, and implementation of all capital projects; prepares, submits, and monitors the Capital Budget; and manages and trains department staff.  This position is a member of the Executive Team and reports to the Library's CEO. 

     
     

     

    Essential Functions:

    1. Supervise the operations and activities of procurement, facilities and safety of the library. 
    2. Manage and supervise department staff; monitor and evaluate job performance; oversee staff training and development. 
    3. Prepare, submit, and monitor the Capital Budget.
    4. Coordinate library renovation projects. 
    5. Oversee the development of capital projects/construction. 
    6. Coordinate the selection and purchase of equipment, supplies, and furniture for the library system. 
    7. Oversee vendor performance; negotiate, sign and maintain contracts; finalize vendor orders. 
    8. Actively and responsibly assist in developing the Library’s goals and objectives and new policies and procedures for the Library in support of the strategic plan. 
    9. Implement library administrative policies and procedures. 
    10. Act as the Library’s representative to the Prince George’s County Insurance Risk Pool.
    11. Professionally represent the Library at public, professional and county meetings, forums, task forces, etc. and maintain membership in at least two professional organizations. 
    12. Create and submit a variety of reports as requested. 
    13. Train department staff and new staff members as needed.
    14. Serve on library committees and work teams as required. 
    15. Assist with special projects as required.
    16. Perform other duties as assigned.


    Qualifications:
    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or comparable field.
    • Five or more years of related experience required; experience in a public or non-profit organization in an executive or leadership capacity preferred.   
    • Four or more years of supervisory experience is required.
    • Thorough knowledge of budgeting, procurement and facilities processes required.  
    • Knowledge of established business and/or non-profit practices and procedures preferred. 
    • Strong public speaking skills and ability to represent PGCMLS externally.
    • Able to manage conflict situations and advise senior executives on internal and external stakeholder engagements.
    • Maintain good working relations with administration, department, and system staff.
    • Ability to gain a thorough knowledge of PGCMLS’s practices, policies, and procedures.
    • Strong communication and customer service skills. 
    • Strong organization and problem-solving skills. 
    • Ability to multi-task.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.  
    • Ability to operate relevant computer systems including hardware and software, such as Microsoft Office, Google apps, electronic databases, e-mail, and internet navigation in addition to other office equipment and security systems.
    • Willingness to travel (usually within the county), approximately 60% of the time.
