Career and Job Services Programmer - Public Library

  • Position Summary:

    The position will be responsible for helping schedule and deliver high quality workforce classes and programs that support helping people find jobs or navigate a career change, assisting instructors with maintenance of content, collection resources and follow-up with patrons. Focus will be on targeting 18-25-year-old audience, specialty programs (for seniors) and hiring events, plus support for Career Navigators.



    Responsibilities:

    • Work with the Career and Job Services Manager and other staff to develop ideas, plan, implement, and evaluate individual programs, series, and events presented in the branch and in the community.
    • Responsible for production of NKYAG Weekly Newsletter via Mail Chimp & meeting deadline. (1600 subscribers)
    • Responsible for coordination and set-up of NKYAG Weekly meetings, including preparing speakers for presentations.
    • Coordinate scheduling with fellow career and job services team members to ensure that systemwide programs do not overlap; helps maintain updated monthly class schedule for patrons.
    • Update Career & Job Services web site to maintain salient content.
    • Prepare written report on monthly activities and compile appropriate statistics on program attendance in coordination with fellow career and job services team members.
    • Cross-trained at public services desks and expected to regularly provide customer service to patrons, shelve materials, and provide other essential library services.
      • Customer service to patrons may include in person, telephone, email, and chat service using a wide variety of print and electronic resources.
    • Work with the PR department to promote programs which can include, interviewing/appearing on local network television and radio, social media, creating content for social media and creating flyers.
    • Collaborate with Patron Experience and Collections staff to create displays, select materials related to programming.
    • Stay current on workforce development programming trends for all ages by attending workshops, conferences, and webinars. Helps educate Public Services staff in workforce resources.
    • Participate in training and community business and workforce committees.
    • Responsible for communicating ideas, issues, and potential solutions to the Career and Job Services Manager.
    • Enforce the Code of Conduct, Internet Use, Safe Child, and similar policies in a proactive and impartial manner.
    • May act as a staff-in-charge.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree preferred. Related work experience in project planning or the equivalent is a plus.
    • Excellent communications/public relations skills along with strong service orientation.
      • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with the public, coworkers, presenters, and vendors.
      • Positivity and professionalism.
      • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
    • Ability to work individually or within a group environment with a diverse population, including individuals, agencies, and businesses.
    • Must have a sense of humor.
    • Ability to define and solve problems; be able to work alone or within groups; have awareness of community resources and contacts; and be highly self-motivated.
    • Computer skills including MS Office, Internet, Mail Chimp, Canva and experience with electronic databases and resources, and eBooks. Knowledge of WordPress a plus.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain certification through the Kentucky State Board for the Certification of Librarians.
    • Valid driver's license and means of transportation to fulfill job responsibilities.
    • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and carry 10 ft; must be able to push and/or pull 100 lbs.
