The Bethlehem Area Public Library has an opening for a Temporary Library Assistant at our South Side Branch. This position is 24 hours per week and pay is $10 per hour. It would run from the week of June 10th to the week of August 1st. PA Child Abuse, PA Criminal, and FBI Fingerprint clearances are required. Full job description is included below.

BETHLEHEM AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY

I. POSITION

A. Title: Temporary Library Assistant

B. Location: Main, South Side, and/or Coolidge

C. Department: Circulation, Youth Services, and/or South Side

D. Supervisor: Head of Circulation, Head of Youth Services, Branch Manager, and/or Head of Outreach

II. QUALIFICATIONS

A. Ability to work cooperatively and tactfully with patrons and staff

B. Flexibility

C. Ability to handle the physical requirements of the job (lifting, bending, reaching, stooping, standing)

D. Ability to make efficient use of time

E. Must maintain a professional appearance on the job

F. Must be at least 16 years of age

III. JOB SUMMARY

A Temporary Library Assistant is responsible for returning library material to its proper shelf location, inspecting materials for damage and cleaning as needed before shelving, monitoring new books, and assisting with various tasks of the library.

IV. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Shelving library materials

B. Checking library materials in and out

C. Keeping shelves in orderly condition and shelf-reading for accuracy of items on the shelf

D. Being alert to notice items that may have damage or missing pieces upon return, then informing proper Circulation staff member of that condition

E. Assisting patrons

F. Rotating new books on and off the new book shelf and rotating seasonal books from storage

G. Creating displays of titles, as needed

H. Researching craft and/or program component ideas

I. Making craft samples and preparing pieces for projects/programs

J. Occasionally assisting program presenters

K. Assisting with changing status of materials in database, as needed

L. Other duties, as assigned
