    This is a 40-hour per week, exempt role. 


    Job Summary: The Youth Services Manager is part of the Public Services management team and provides vision, planning, and implementation in children’s and teen services at the Main Library. This position oversees programs, outreach, customer service, and collection maintenance as well as the training and development of Youth Services staff. The Youth Services Manager provides leadership and fosters a participatory workgroup culture that encourages employees to take ownership of their performance, development, and accomplishments. 


    Essential Functions:

    • Recruits, hires, trains, directs, and terminates Youth Services staff. Evaluates staff performance and provides coaching and additional training as needed. (35%)
    • Oversees the development and implementation of story times for the library system and other programs for children, teens, and families. Collaborates with programs and events team and other colleagues to deliver the annual summer learning program. (25%)
    • Coordinates with the literacy and outreach team to design, deliver and evaluate outreach activities for children and teens. (25%)
    • Coordinates with the collection services team to maintain the children’s and teen collections and makes collection development recommendations. (15%)

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Serves as a manager on duty to maintain smooth daily library operations. 
    • Provides back up customer service at any service point. 
    • Contributes to library strategic planning and recommends long-range plans for children’s and teen services. 
    • Develops and delivers trainings to colleagues that are informed by new developments in children’s and teen services. 
    • Maintains records of program participation, compiles data, and prepares statistical reports.
    • Attends meetings, serves on library-wide committees and projects, and participates in professional development opportunities.

    Requirements

    Required Qualifications:

    • Education and experience: Master’s degree in library and information science and five years of progressively responsible library and supervisory experience.  
    • Technical skills: Proficiency with MS Office suite, social media, downloadable media, and library databases and software.


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Three years of supervisory experience in children’s and teen services. 
    • Demonstrated experience using Sierra integrated library system and the electronic resources available at the Boulder Public Library. 
    • Spanish language skills and/or experience working with patrons from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.  


    Working Conditions:

    Works both in an office environment and in spaces open to the public. Work may include extended periods of time viewing a computer monitor and operating a keyboard. Requires sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer, office, and library equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes which permit the employee to work in a multilevel facility. Seeing, hearing, and speaking required.
