LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.     Position Description Summary
    Temporary Research Librarian, Faculty Rank

    Duties
    The Temporary Research Librarian operates under the authority of the Director of the Commonwealth University Libraries.
    • Assisting undergraduate, graduate, and faculty researchers in locating relevant information
    • Participating in the Library’s Information Literacy Instruction program
    • Keeping informed about current events in the Library profession that are pertinent to job responsibilities
    • Participating in assigned liaison responsibilities with academic departments as needed
    • Cooperating as a team member with other librarians and staff in performing other professional duties as directed by the Director of the Commonwealth University Libraries

    Qualifying Experience and Education (Minimum/Preferred)
    Required:
    • ALA-accredited Masters degree
    • Experience using and teaching online information resources
    • Finalists must successfully complete an interview
    • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations

    Preferred: Prior academic library experience

    Background Clearances
    Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
