LIBRARIAN develops and maintains a collection of books and other materials and provides research and reference support to library users. Researches publications and suggests new sources and offerings for acquisition to enhance the collection. Being a LIBRARIAN performs cataloging and creates bibliographies and metadata to classify the library's collection of books, serial publications, documents, audiovisual, and other materials. Designs and delivers research support processes and services to ensure that groups and individuals can access requested materials. Additionally, LIBRARIAN distributes up-to-date information on new acquisitions, library activities, and services. Oversees the selection and maintenance of technology infrastructure and tools used in the library. Requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The LIBRARIAN occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.       LIBRARIAN/INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA SPECIALIST

      William Tennent High School
      General Scope of Responsibilities – Development of students’ information/media skills and knowledge through library and technology curriculum; collaboration with classroom teachers; maintenance and growth of the building library facility, including the Makerspace area(s).

      Reports to – Principal

      Supervises – Library Aides and volunteers, if applicable.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities

      • Evaluate, promote, and use existing and emerging instructional technologies to support teaching and learning, engage students, and improve learning while providing 24/7 access to digital information resources for the entire learning community;
      • Manage, develop, and deliver creative and innovative library/maker programming in an innovative environment;
      • Colloborate and assist teachers and staff in planning for the use and integration of the full range of emerging technologies and digital curriculum;
      • Identify informative and entertaining programs on a variety of topics that fit within District goals related to the maker culture and involving our makerspaces;
      • Provide access to creative technology such as Computer Aided Design workstations, 3-D printers, robotics, electronics kits, etc.;
      • Utilize hands-on learning and collaboration in support of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematic) content and resources;
      • Support student achievement of District and state reading standards and foster student recreational reading;
      • Develop and maintain a collection of, and provide access to media that support the curriculum and the instructional programs of the District;
      • Maintain computerized circulation system and catalog database;
      • Instruct students at all grade levels in:
        • Library organization
        • Reading as a lifetime activity
        • Locating information
        • Utilizing information
      • Meet monthly with other district librarians and the Director of Teaching & Learning and/or Principal;
      • Interact with local public librarian(s) to coordinate assignments and support reading programs;
      • Participate in library budget development and purchasing;
      • Provide and/or plan-professional development opportunities in the use of new technologies and school library services within the school and/or district for staff, including other school librarians;
      • Other duties as may be assigned.

      Required Qualifications and Experience

      • Valid Pennsylvania instructional certification in Library Science PK-12; addtional certification in Communications preferred;
      • Ability to work with children of varying ages and abilities;
      • Proficient knowledge of online research, social networking resources, mobile devices, emerging technologies, and Microsoft Office/Google Products;
      • Ability to inspire imaginations and create a gathering place for the Centennial School District community;
      • Ability to be flexible and change direction/priorities based on needs of the school;
      • Strong working knowledge of District and state achievement standards:
      • Pennsylvania Literacy Framework
      • Computer use/instruction
      • Audio visual resources
      • Research skills
      • Library organization, instruction, and all library-related technologies
      • Makerspace movement
      • Ability to supervise volunteers and/or staff members;
      • Experience as school librarian preferred;
      • Ability to take direction and work well with others;
      • Ability to appear for work and to complete assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time.

      Physical Demands

      • Ability to travel to various school district buildings and off-campus sites;
      • Ability to work in office or classroom environments for extended periods of time including, but not limited to, sitting, standing, some lifting, bending and reaching;
      • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally;
      • Ability to appear for work and to complete assigned tasks within a reasonable period of time;
      • Ability to manage and control classroom situations.

      Term of Employment - 190 days/10 months; salary and benefits per collective bargaining agreement. Must have valid PA certifiction in Library Science.

      ALL EMPLOYMENT IS PROVISIONAL FOR 90 DAYS AS REQUIRED BY ACT 168 OF 2014, ENACTED DECEMBER 22, 2014. MUST SUBMIT ACT 168 FORM TO ALL CURRENT AND FORMER EMPLOYERS WHERE YOU HAVE HAD DIRECT CONTACT WITH CHILDREN.
