    POSITION SUMMARY:


    Capitol Technology University, a nonprofit university located in Laurel, Maryland seeks an Assistant Librarian to assist in running the University Library.  Personal initiative, problem-solving skills, and a strong belief in customer service are required.  


    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Be creative and service oriented with the diverse faculty, staff and student body
    • Keep statistical records necessary for reports requested by the U.S. Office of Education, 
    • Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System, State Agencies and Accrediting bodies
    • Partner with the Director of Library Services and Information literacy developing, evaluating and providing instruction to first-year students in obtaining information literacy skills
    • Partner with the Director of Library Services and Information literacy developing, evaluating and providing instruction on using the virtual library
    • Update the website and portal with current and relevant information about events, changes to hours, library services, etc. 
    • Responsible for checking and responding to emails
    • Responsible for maintaining and updating archives collection
    • Responsible for operational readiness of computers, printers, copiers, and scanners
    • Assist with research questions and search requests
    • Keep track of technical services accounts/invoicing and changes in service
    • Regularly work within EOS.Web, the library’s OPAC to ensure:
      • Records are up to date, new items are processed and added to the collection (see cataloging manual)
      • Over-due books are run every week 
      • Track graduates prior to commencement to ensure all items are returned and fines paid, otherwise send ID of students to Registrar for a hold
      • When URLS are all updated, ensure all links are checked on website and portal
      • That disability compliance standards are met
      • That books are shelved appropriately using Library of Congress system
    • Supervise, train and assign duties of library student aides
    • Cover the front desk as needed
    • Use ADP to track and approve library student aide timecards
    • Coordinate with Communications department and contribute to the school’s social media outreach
    • Support program development to ensure library provides access to required materials
    • Suggest items and resources for collection development
    • Write briefs as requested by director highlighting new additions; possible research into new additions 


    POSITION SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or related fields
    • Experience with developing and posting Web content
    • Supervisory and scheduling experience with student workers
    • Familiarity with STEM related subjects topics such as engineering and computer science
    • One to two years reference and instruction experience
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
    • Ability to work independently, within a team environment, and with diverse groups


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    There are limited physical demands; however, this position occasionally requires sitting for extended periods and repetitive motions for tasks such as operating a computer mouse and keyboard and hearing and speaking on the telephone. The candidate must be able to pull, bend, grasp, and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
